Sigh
Revisado: 07-09-23
For a few years, I was commuting from Napa Valley California to the Pacific Northwest. I listen to a lot of audiobooks for those years. I have enjoyed Kristin Hannah‘s books in the past so I thought I would give this one a try. I like her writing style. I’ll say, though that this one felt a little bit like a upgraded harlequin romance. Everyone in it seems to be rich beautiful and overcome the wrong is done to them in their younger days. It was a little too perfect.

Historia
Five years ago, Myra's pregnant daughter was killed by a hit-and-run driver - the playboy son of an ambassador with diplomatic immunity. Myra was left to grieve while the murderer was free to return to his lavish lifestyle with no fear of ever having to pay for his crime. But not for much longer. As the air turns crisp in the Virginia hills around Myra's lovely old farmhouse, the Sisterhood has gathered for a little creative planning, and what they have in mind is a gift for Myra of long-awaited and very sweet revenge.

some problems
Revisado: 02-13-19
I had high hopes for this series. I rather like the women, but besides the fact that they are all gorgeous and so well educated in their field the ideas are getting a bit close to the jump the shark phase. First of all, I don't like that Myra sounds more like an 80 year old rather than the 60+ year old she is supposed to be. I'm also having trouble with Jack being such a boy scout cop, and yet he breaks and enters with abandon. Trying to decide whether to give it one more go or return the rest in the series...

Historia
We expect our judges to be honest and wise. Their integrity and impartiality are the bedrock of the entire judicial system. We trust them to ensure fair trials, to protect the rights of all litigants, to punish those who do wrong, and to oversee the orderly and efficient flow of justice. But what happens when a judge bends the law or takes a bribe? It’s rare, but it happens. Lacy Stoltz is an investigator for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct. She is a lawyer, not a cop, and it is her job to respond to complaints dealing with judicial misconduct.

I love John Grisham. I did not like the narrator for this book. Way to breathy, Marilyn Monroe style. I finally made it through the book by turning the speed up to 1.5. I'll make a note of this artist and choose carefully. Hope she isn't reading Camino Island

Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

Historia
A teenage girl awakens to find herself trapped in a coffin. She has no idea who she is, where she is, or how she got there. Fighting her way free brings little relief - she discovers only a room lined with caskets and a handful of equally mystified survivors. Beyond their room lies a corridor filled with bones and dust but no people and no answers. She knows only one thing about herself - her name, M. Savage, which was engraved on the foot of her coffin. She finds herself in charge. She is not the biggest among them or the boldest, but for some reason the others trust her.

I wish I could remember who recommended this book to me, so that I could ask them why. I tried my trick of turning up the speed, but when they ended up back in the coffin room, I was done, done done.

I hope I make it through
Revisado: 09-08-15
I'm really just reviewing the narrator here. While he may be a wonderful person, his style of reading is not for me. I have increased the speed the narration to 2X just trying to make it through the book, but still his breathlessness at the end of every sentence distracts me. I hope he is not the narrator of the next book by Baldacci that I just preordered....my mistake in preordering before the name of the narrator was released. I might have to give up and convert the book to my kindle and just read it.

UGH!
Revisado: 06-14-15
I have read many of the Prey books and always enjoyed them. I just started listening to them and I have to say, I'm sorry Mr Ferrone, but the only way I can make it through this great story is to turn the speed up. The voice is so gravelly, sounds like a life lived on cigarettes and booze. Not a judgement, just an observation. I don't picture Lucas as that kind of voice at all. Maybe I've just become too spoiled with Dick Hill. I searched back and found that Mr Ferrone is the same narrator for the entire series, so I guess I'll go back to my ereader to catch up on the others.

Historia
Meet Harold Fry, recently retired. He lives in a small English village with his wife, Maureen, who seems irritated by almost everything he does, even down to how he butters his toast. Little differentiates one day from the next. Then one morning the mail arrives, and within the stack of quotidian minutiae is a letter addressed to Harold in a shaky scrawl from a woman he hasn’t seen or heard from in twenty years. Queenie Hennessy is in hospice and is writing to say goodbye.

An Unlikely Fave!
Revisado: 12-28-12
I was skeptical going into this one. My husband keeps talking about how he is going to "walk across America" once he is retired. It was with that in mind, that I gave this one a listen. And I LOVED IT! It was so good at making me feel like I was walking right alongside Harold and I kept hoping that Queenie would indeed be waiting. This one may be a surprise hit to you too.

Historia
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Kept Waiting
Revisado: 12-28-12
I had purchased this book a few months back, after reading about it in EW mag. Then after seeing it on so many of the audible editors BEST lists, I moved it up the queue and was anxious to hear what all the raves were about. And I kept waiting. And waiting. I thought it was "okay", but certainly not one of the top 10 this year on my list.

Found this book listed on several best seller lists and gave it a try. The writing is so well done, I could see the community and feel the southern humidity. The characters are well defined. A satisfying ending as well. Highly recommended.
