Historia
Are you a child of emotionally immature, narcissistic parents? Find the salvation from abuse with the help of this book and start healing yourself! Typically, the narcissistic parents perceive the independence of their children, especially adult ones, as a threat. In a narcissistic parenting relationship, the child is rarely shown love just for being themselves. You surely asked yourself questions like “Will I be ever good enough?”, or “What can I do to earn their gratification and love?”.

I found some new insights presented with great clarity in chapter 1 then some of the descriptions became very absolute about behaviors and outcomes. I think if this is referring to the utmost extreme example of narcissism it’s likely accurate but in my experience there are degrees and some people fall into narcassistic episodes when under great stress and then come out to parent pretty well. I think the book lacks nuance and empathy for the narcissist. Here’s why I say this- not all narcissists are 100% there- for someone having destructive narcassistic meltdowns maybe there should be a mention of why it occurs.

NOT the best parenting book out there
Revisado: 01-22-23
I found this book hard to get through. There’s detailing of what waves are dominant at which juncture of childhood and what that means… in a nutshell the repetitive message is- eat right, drink water and get enough exercise for a healthy brain.
Many more worthwhile resources with more specifics. I couldn’t finish this. Boring and repetitive .

New to Camping
Revisado: 06-24-22
Ever since the original “Parent Trap” I’ve always longed to be a camper. When my son was ten I had a prompting as he was playing little league baseball he should go to camp. I felt he needed the confidence. The adventure., after I plopped down my $4,000 fir two weeks of camp panic set in and I wasn’t sure I’d made the right decision. This book was my saving grace. I listened to it over and over a few times. I gained perspective and confidence on how I’d coach my son through this. Camp was not perfect. He had a few complaints but overwhelmingly fear I saw was a broadening if interests, skills and confidence. This book helped us get there.

Historia
As a progressive commentator on Fox News and now CNN, Sally Kohn has made a career out of bridging intractable political differences, learning how to talk civilly to people whose views she disagrees with passionately. Famously "nice", she even gave a TED Talk about what she termed emotional correctness. But these days, even Kohn has found herself wanting to breathe fire at her enemies. It was time, she decided, to look into the ugliness erupting all around us.

Some good insights & Some Overreaching assumptions
Revisado: 02-23-21
The colonization of America was one of the biggest examples of Hate in record, the author asserts.
I don’t agree with that.
She forgets that the first Thanksgiving was one of mutual respect and helping.
The need for the Europeans to flee oppressive conditions in Europe was “Hate” but immigrants illegally migrating to America and having access to the resources of others is what? Love? It’s survival, not hate. It’s desire for more. Could it be greed? I don’t think it’s greed it’s just a want of something better. But Kohn is labeling many social unfolding sad hate that I don’t think fit that category. Sally Kohn opens up with some honest accounting of the hate indoctrinating training she received as an activist. I’d say the impression it made on her still has her mind and eyes clouded over with some incorrect attribution to what is hate. She also fails to see the use of hate as a manipulative tool for power and control.

Historia
More than thirty million people in the United States are dyslexic—a brain-based genetic trait, often labeled as a “learning disability” or “learning difference,” that makes interpreting text and reading difficult. Yet even though children with dyslexia may have trouble reading, they don’t have any problems learning; dyslexia has nothing to do with a lack of intellect.

Best Book so far
Revisado: 10-15-20
To me this is the best book I’ve read this far on the topic of dyslexia. To me it gives the most concrete examples of strategies and proven success stories. I also liked the audible voice of the author. It was pleasant to listen to which goes for a lot done Sidu le books have lousy narration.

Historia
Within every community, toxic people can be found hiding in families, couples, companies, and places of worship. The cryptic nature of psychological abuse involves repetitious mind games played by one individual or a group of people. Psychological abuse leaves no bruises. There are no broken bones. There are no holes in the walls. The bruises, brokenness, and holes are held tightly within the target of the abuse.

Angry Tone

No
Would you ever listen to anything by Shannon Thomas LCSW again?
No
Would you be willing to try another one of Wendy Tremont King’s performances?
No
Do you think Healing from Hidden Abuse needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
This book has a very negative, angry tone. I realize the nature of the material is that the reader (Survivor) has been hurt but I honestly feel her tone and the way the material is presented is very toxic.
