Historia
Uta Hagen, one of the world's most renowned stage actresses, also taught acting for more than 40 years at the HB Studio in New York. Her first book, Respect for Acting, published in 1973, remains a best seller in print. In this brand new audio edition of her second classic book, A Challenge for the Actor, she greatly expands her thinking about acting in a work that brings the full flowering of her artistry, both as an actor and as a teacher. She raises the issue of the actor's goals and examines the specifics of the actor's techniques.

Not what I expected

great audible book for actors
Revisado: 04-19-21
this book definitely talks about all the details we don't really learn about in screen acting. it's a bit tedious at the end of the chapters because he goes through all of the examples for a couple of minutes but other than that the rest of the book is fabulous.

Not great
Revisado: 03-03-21
I struggled to finish this one, I feel like it was misleading as well. it's more like a biography of his life when I thought it would be more instructional. The tone was boring; the ending was the best and it had good advice about performing monologues, but that's about all that stuck with me. Also, the first half of the book is about him being a stage actor, so that might be more relevant to you other actors out there.

One of our best-loved actors, Michael Caine has starred in over 100 films in his six-decade career, spanning classic movies like Alfie, Zulu, and The Italian Job (the inspiration for the book title) to playing Alfred opposite Christian Bale's Batman in Christopher Nolan's blockbuster Dark Knight trilogy. Caine has excelled in every kind of role - with a skill that's made it look easy. As he says, "Small parts can lead to big things. And if you keep doing things right, the stars will align when you least expect it."

Good Advice
Revisado: 02-03-21
He tells more of a personal story about his life in the beginning, but then he shares more and more about his career and the path that lead him to where he is now. He gets great advice about what'll help you as an actor, what to focus on, what some directors are like, etc. And just listening to Michael Caine, it's a fabulous time!

The casting director for Chicago, Pippin, Becket, Gypsy, The Graduate, The Sound of Music, and Jesus Christ Superstar tells you how you can find your dream role! Absolutely everything an actor needs to know to get the part is here: What to do that moment before; how to use humour; how to create mystery; how to develop a distinct style; and how to evaluate the place, the relationships, and the competition. In fact, Audition is a necessary guide to dealing with all the "auditions" we face in life. This is the bible on the subject.

Mostly for stage actors
Revisado: 01-11-21
It was okay, mostly addressing stage actors, and the audio cuts out at the end of sentences often, but you can infer what he was saying.

Historia
Jenna Fischer's Hollywood journey began at the age of 22 when she moved to Los Angeles from her hometown of St. Louis. She was determined, confident, and ready to work hard. So, what could go wrong? Uh, basically everything. The path to being a professional actor was so much more vast and competitive than she’d imagined. It would be eight long years before she landed her iconic role on The Office, nearly a decade of frustration, rejection, and doubt. If only she’d had a handbook for the aspiring actor. Or, better yet, someone to show her the way. Jenna wants to be that person for you.

I absolutely loved listening to this book on audible! Jenna Fischer is hilarious and her tone is so sweet and she sounds so caring and compassionate. It's nice to hear the scoop from someone who's been in the industry for so long and really does tell you the pros and cons and what the journey actually looks like! Very inspiring!
