Italy, pirates, forbidden love, buried treasure. All the things!
Revisado: 05-04-25
Set in Positano, Italy, this dual-timeline story from 1821 and the modern day combines mystery, romance, and Italian folklore. It features forbidden love, pirates, buried treasure, and family secrets. A group of women practices “stregheria,” ancient witchcraft, to manipulate the ocean and break a curse. Both timelines are emotionally rich and mysterious, with the modern plot revealing truths hidden beneath the sea and the past. Fans of magical, atmospheric stories will enjoy this book. The narrators did a fantastic job!

Witty, dark, suspenseful
Revisado: 04-23-25
I enjoyed this book written in 1936 by Daphne DuMaurier. It wasn’t a book I couldn’t put down so to speak, but I enjoyed it just the same. I had a problem with the narrator’s female voices. Our main character, Mary is a smart, strong and determined young lady, but his voice made her sound like she was nothing of the sort. Since this was a female lead, I think this book would’ve been better narrated by a woman.
However, it didn’t sway me from listening, and it was still enjoyable!
This is a classic Gothic tale full of mild suspense, murder, thievery, adventure, survival, and an unlikely love story. DuMaurier’s descriptions are atmospheric, bringing the Cornish landscape to life with vivid imagery that captures both its beauty and danger.

Perfect mix of historical fiction and fantasy!
Revisado: 04-16-25
Number one. Julia Whelan never disappoints. This book is the perfect blend of fantasy and historical fiction. If you like either genre, DO NOT skip this one!
“𝑰𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒔𝒐 𝒎𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒎𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔, 𝒔𝒐 𝒎𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒇𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒕.”
Easily one of my favorite reads of 2025. The main character is someone you root for from the start. You live every moment with her across 300 years of immortality—unseen, forgotten—until someone finally remembers.
“‘𝑰 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖.’ 𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒔, 𝒍𝒂𝒓𝒈𝒆 𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒊𝒑 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅.”
There are twists, heartbreaks, highs, and lows. It’s beautiful, haunting, sad, and triumphant.
I couldn’t put it down—442 pages in four days. Addie LaRue is now one of my all-time literary heroines. Bravo.

Historia
For 14-year-old Wallis Ann Stamper and her family, life in the Appalachian Mountains is simple and satisfying, though not for the tenderhearted. While her older sister, Laci - a mute, musically gifted savant - is constantly watched over and protected, Wallis Ann is as practical and sturdy as her name. When the Tuckasegee River bursts its banks, forcing them to flee in the middle of the night, those qualities save her life. But though her family is eventually reunited, the tragedy opens Wallis Ann's eyes to a world beyond the creek that's borne their name for generations.

Wonderful story. Perfect narrator.
Revisado: 04-12-25
This book had it all. Highs. lows, love, loss, conflict, struggle, strength, triumph. All of it. I loved going through this journey with Wallace Ann and her family. I had a hard time breaking away from it, and the narrator was absolutely perfect. This was my first book by this author, and I will definitely look up more of her works.

Not Enough Substance
Revisado: 04-09-25
⭐️⭐️1/2 - Not s fan of the narrator. She over annunciated every single sentence. An unnatural way. On to the book: Not too sure how I feel about this book. It wasn’t great, and I don’t even know if I care about what happens in the next book despite the cliffhanger. None of the characters really stuck with me and there is no real villain other than one evil ghost. All the other characters are perfect; a little too perfect. Borderline boring. There is no conflict, therefore no conflict resolution. Over 50% of the book is just dialogue. As in every day conversations. What they’re gonna eat, the dogs, what they’re doing, what they should wear, dinner, parties, work, laughing, visiting, blah blah blah; just going about their business. too much of this and not enough of the actual plot. I actually found myself over the last few chapters eager to just get it over with. I prematurely bought the sequel and I think I may return it.

An invasion is imminent as many plot to bring the exiled young Jacobite king back to Scotland to reclaim his throne, and in Edinburgh, the streets are filled with discontent and danger. Great history. Confusing twist.
Revisado: 03-30-25
(2.5 ⭐️⭐️) This was my second book by SK. And though I appreciated the story, the history, and the dual timelines, the twist at the end left me very confused. Things just didn’t add up.
The narrator’s voice was nice, but a little slow. I sped it up to 1.2 or 1.5 and it was better.

Beautiful Story! Perfect Narration
Revisado: 03-26-25
I finished this wonderful book in just four days—there's nothing better than a story you can't put down! As a huge fan of The Secret Book of Flora Lea, this is my second novel by Patti Callahan Henry, and I now realize I’ve been missing out on her previous works. I’ll definitely be looking into reading more!
This was a beautiful story about a young woman navigating life as a single mom with a career in a small town, all while grappling with the mysterious abandonment of her own mother. Her journey, alongside her daughter, unfolds into a tale of purpose, leading them across the globe through a world of mystery, heartache, forgiveness, healing, magic, self discovery and love.
Lastly, Julia Whelan as a narrator—she truly brings the story to life. I highly recommend this book; you won’t be disappointed! XOXO

Revisado: 03-19-25
I saw this book on an Instagram page that I follow on Saturday 3/15, went to the bookstore that same day picked it up and had it finished in three days on 3/18. What a wonderful delightful historical fiction story. The narration was wonderful and very authentic. I fell in love with the characters instantly. It was a bit of magic, intrigue, romance, and adventure. I’d never read a book by this author before but now I’m going to venture into more of her books. Her style of writing and the way she speaks for the characters seems very genuine and very time appropriate. I’m so glad I saw this Instagram review. I loved it so so much. It really stuck with me. Wonderful. Thank you, Susanna Kearsley!

I really enjoyed this book. I love how Sarah‘s real life drama took her on an unexpected trip to Ireland. Sometimes it’s the spontaneity in life that helps you find yourself. I loved the storyline going back and forth between the future and the present. The narrator did a really great job. Her voice is like butter. An easy listen and highly recommended.

This is a pretty entertaining story. It had a good balance of mystery, intrigue, romance and history. The narrator does such an exceptional job with her voices as well. It wasn’t a book I felt like I “couldn’t put down”, but I enjoyed it nevertheless.
