It's a good distraction book. "Big Dumb Orc" shows up in college, and wins over the crowd because while he's EXACTLTY what they expected, he's also more than they expected. It's only the first 3 books in the series. Would love to get the rest of the series in audiobook, format.

Very Engaging Book

This is a good fantasy adventure book. It's not a LitRPG, or GameLit novel thats popular these days. It's true D&D fantasy. It's read by a good narrator that has good character voices, and adds to the enjoyment t of the story. all in all, a very good fantasy book. Moving right along to the second book.

RPG growth but same level narration

I like that Reed James is expanding his Fantasy/LITRPG content. I think he might be able to grow into doing a pretty good job in the subgenre if he wants to. He just needs to invest in a better narrator. Catherine Carter sounds like she's reading the phone book to a comatose hospice patient. As always, the story carries the narrator here.

OMG!!! The narration ruins the experience.

The narrator has a stop and start Shatner-style of performing that is so irritating that it ruins the whole book. I tried to appreciate the author's efforts but I could only get half way through (skipping at times) before quitting all together. PREVIEW THIS BEFORE BUYING!!! THAT NARRATION WILL BE THROUGHOUT THE NOVEL!!!

The story was good but the author seems impatient

The story was good and the narration was outstanding but the author seems to share the MCs impatience. There are several jumps in hours, days, and weeks during battles, negotiation, dungeon dives and traveling. it's not that its important information being left out. it's more that the jumps are during times of detailed descriptions and then suddenly you jump and after a few of the bigger jumps, you get the feeling that the author is eager to "move the story along." This is a personal thing so not everyone will have a issue with it. I just found that it pulled me out of the imagery that the author was presenting at the time. Other than that, it was another great addition to the series.

I tried to like it. I really did.

There were a number if issues with this omnibus. The additional theatrics with the narration was a distraction. It's like when someone overuses autotune on a song. Then there's the MC who is not only unlikable, but seems to go out of his way to make bad decision after bad decision and is surprised when he gets in trouble for it. Interestingly enough, he's saved by others as often as he brute strengths his way out trouble. And why the hell does he keep leaving people alive. I got through the first book before I gave up.

In my opinion, this wasn't as good as the first book. But this is a series and much of this book's content was necessary to advance the series.

Getting Better and Better

If the first book in this series (The Drowned Girls) was good, this one was better. Good character development, better cop drama, and enough flawed characters to build a good series on. Can't wait for the next book.
