Another Vietnam history that the left wants you to ignore. The narrator needs a lesson on how too pronounce the word “Vietnamese” as well as some names, cities and provinces.

This book gives a very good narrative of Colombian history until the 1970s. Unfortunately, the author’s political biases bring down the scholarly quality as his disdain for Republicans results in the occasional childish digs.

When this book is focused on Xi Jinping and the CCP and their attempts to control the minds of Chinese citizenry, as well the governments and people of the world, it gives the listener an insight not provided in such detail before. Whether a person likes or dislikes Trump, the author has an unnatural and sometimes childish obsession with this man that can derail the narrative. Trump is not anymore authoritarian than Obama, but neither were a threat to democracy. If the author is to be honest, the Obama, Bush and Clinton presidencies, along with plenty of liberal governments in Western Europe have been duped by financial gain and have aided the CCP’s authoritarian global initiatives. The author’s desire to insert his personal views glosses over where the blame lies. While Trump can be a bit of a blowhard, he merely came along after much of this has happened. This is why journalists are not the best historians.

Mike has shared his life in Scientology as a means to teach others about the evils of this cult. It was hard to stop listening as he took me through his life journey inside and outside Scientology, it’s well paced and informative. It’s sounds cliche, but everyone should read or listen. Mike is a good narrator and does well to explain Scientology lingo as the book moves along.

In 2022, a time where some Americans and politicians claim that our freedoms and Republic are threatened, saying this solely for the purpose of political gain, everyone should read or listen to this book and learn what oppression really is. This is a well written and compelling account of Virginia Prodan’s life in communist Romania. Despite the religious overtones, it is a mostly a book about the struggle for freedom in the face of an evil system that thankfully was overthrown.

This was a great history of a part the world often ignored. However, the climate scare talk and the needless mention of Trump at the end allowed the book finish on a weak note.

This is a well written and researched book about Carlos the Jackal. As a child, news coverage painted him as an evil terrorist. This book affirms that, but also shows the complex and sometimes absurd character that he was.

This book was definitely worth the listen albeit at 1.2 speed. Throughout the years I had heard snippets of troubling news from Sri Lanka back to the 1980s. This book filled the holes and was well researched. However, as is true with many journalists who try to be historians, the author digresses into his left of center globalist potshots on occasion, especially at the closing chapters. Nonetheless, it’s worth your time.

This is a balanced analysis from a variety of sources, including Soviet, Afghan, Middle Eastern and European voices. Too often, historians and journalists from Europe in particular, want to diminish Reagan’s 50% share of the credit for winning the Cold War.

Although certain parts of the book helped me understand the CIA’s rogue behavior in certain countries and the tragedy of 1960s Indonesia and South America, throughout the book the author played fast and loose with the facts to create a Marxist leaning narrative. In many ways, it comes across as a leftist conspiracy book, frequently making use of “probably” and “likely” to push the reader to accept things that the author believes but cannot prove. When the author tries to tie in China, Vietnam and Cambodia to the conspiracy, he demonstrates that he is truly in over his head in the field of historical study.
