Merry Bands of Pirates Are Extremely Inventive!!
Revisado: 07-01-24
I’m totally absorbed in the sci-fi adventures of each character in this gifted author’s imagination!! To say RC Bray’s narration is extraordinarily compelling is to say Shakespeare wrote a few good lines!! I’m enjoying each chapter of each book, savoring the experience as slowly as I can to make Bishop, Skippy, Jennifer, Margaret and company dwell with me for as long as I can. So far, the first 10 books have gotten me through a prolonged 10-month (and counting) recovery from an unexpectedly complicated adventure in surgery. Much gratitude and blessings, all!! ( Skippy too!!)

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

I can’t believe how swiftly this humorous plus edge-of-your seat, tale of adventure in outer space drew me in, charmed and enthralled me!! I could hardly put it down and I tumble landed at the end of 16 hours with dismay. I’m currently enduring an unexpectedly problematic surgical recuperation so I was truly overjoyed to find such an engaging book. Were all the voices truly created by one narrator?!? BRAVO!!! The irreverent and soft-hearted main character/narrator’s depiction reminded me (as I’m sure was intended) of classic Bruce Willis’ acting, bless his talented heart.

We bonded over eyebrows, amongst other things. You’ll know Dan Levy as David Rose in the widely adored TV show Schitt’s Creek, which he co-wrote and created with his father Eugene Levy. If ever there was a story of failure leading to success, it’s this, as Dan tells me how his multi-award winning and critically acclaimed show was (initially) turned down by every single network in the USA. We also chat about relationship failures and a particular childhood incident involving birthday cake. Plus, we explore his fantastic new film ‘Good Grief’ - a beautiful gay love story for the modern...

In this podcast from North Country Public Radio, reporters Emily Russell and Zach Hirsch investigate extremist groups and militia movements in northern New York State, why they're drawing support, and what kinds of threats they pose at a pivotal moment for democracy in the United States.

WOW! Left me wanting more chapters of the careful work of these two creative and courageous journalists! I have stayed in and travelled through upper state NY (especially often in the Glens Falls area.)
Not in any sense to the depth of this work, but I am a confirming witness to a subtle slump to the right reflected in symbols, lawn signs, flag displays, noticeable changes in street affect toward the “otherness” of the obvious non-native strangers of my travelling companions.
I do believe that a pervasive sense of anxiety, unleashed as if it was another virus by the isolation of the pandemic, was/is a foundational pillar of the rise of politically violent speech, embrace of delusions, distrust of authority and hostile actions,
large (like 1/6/2021) and small.
The secret chamber of Pandora’s lowest drawer in her appalling box of tricks contained also the devils of doubt, hate, ignorance…..flamed by the drug of anonymous “keyboard courage,”the dark side of the rise of social media.
We Americans (rather all good, equitable, peace-loving people in every country!!) must continue to practice vigilance and summon the courage to speak out in our intimate circles as exhorted by the articulate, well-versed and frank woman, heading up NY office of domestic terrorism vigilance. All is NOT bleak, my fellow citizens when inquisitive, intelligent journalists and wise government leaders such as these interviewed are wide-eyed awake and alert. BRAVO!!!👏🏿 👏🏽👏👏🏻☮️

Clever braiding of plot devices!!
Revisado: 12-31-23
Certainly enjoyed this light-hearted, amusing, yet quite dramatic Audible originals book.
Set primarily in the sometimes chaotic, eternally emotional whirl of the late autumn time of the run-up to Christmas. Weaving in of visual arts/ artists was especially delightful to me, an artist.
Surprising twists concerning contemporary electronics glitches, dating apps, courtship pitfalls afforded me laugh out loud moments as well as a few tears. Will be looking forward to this clever author’s future work!! BRAVO!! ✨🎉🩵🕊️🎊 ✨

It's nearly Christmas, Julia Devine's favourite time of the year. She's just programmed a wonderful lead into the holidays at Sunny Street Cinema, which leaves her plenty of time to worry about going home to Cumbria for Christmas. Her mum and stepdad are fine, but the thought of spending another holiday with her awful stepsister Becca is enough to make a Scrooge out of anyone. When Becca calls to let her know about the dreamy pilot she's bringing to Christmas lunch, Julia finally snaps and does something very silly.

A true thriller, a page turner in the traditional sense of books in print form! Really could hardly stop listening...a scary modern fable, cautionary tale. Excellent depiction of female characters, somewhat rare in my experience, in the craft of male writers. Looking very much forward to more works from this author and talented narrator/ voice actor! BRAVO!!🍂🍁🍃

But as detective Peter Decker learns, the kid is linked to the criminal world. While Gratz and his partner, Kyle Masterson, admitted to the robbery, they swore they left the owners, Glen and Lydia Levine, alive.

A whirlwind of a tale, left some plot lines unresolved
Revisado: 05-29-23
Always an enjoyable, page turner, whether I read from paper or sound experience. This one was a bit confusing with so many possible or probable criminals. The narrator did a bang-up job designing vocal differences between so many variously aged (and from different parts of USA) male characters,IMO.
Would have liked more character development, especially fleshing out the female "co-stars," more Jewish and city versus rural cultural details, and especially more minute descriptions of Rhina's kitchen wizardry!!
Faye K has been so very prolific over an impressive span of years! Perhaps I detect a hint of ennui as her beloved Decker-Lazurus series seems to be drawing to a close? I'd savor all that she chooses to write, however, no matter how much time may lie between publications!! BRAVO!!🌟☮️🌟
