Excellent historical mystery.
Revisado: 08-19-24
In the Christie "house party limited suspect pool style", this is an old fashioned murder mystery. This was my first book from this author although it's the third in the series but I could come in at book 3 with no issues. The main character is clearly the typical English "duffer" more of an Inspector Frost than a Peter Whimsy but he's very endearing. I liked the writing a lot. I enjoyed the narration immensely. I'm going looking for more in the series.

Historia
Freeman is a genius with an uncommon mixture of memory, intelligence and creativity. He lives in a worldwide utopia, but it was not always so. There was a time known as the Grind—when Freeman’s people lived as slaves to another race referred to simply as “Master.” They were property. But a civil rights movement emerged. Change seemed near, but the Masters refused to bend. Instead, they declared war. And lost. Now, the freed world is threatened by a virus, spread through bites, sweeping through the population.

Original storyline, good characters, drama, nothing missing.
Revisado: 06-09-24
I've read a few of Jeremy Robinson's books and they are all good ( so far) and this one is no exception. It's loosely about the old human / robot struggle with a zombie apocalypse thrown in but it has a few twists that make it unique. It goes without saying that the narration is peerless. I'm off to buy another of this guy's books.

Not typical Alien stuff but still good
Revisado: 05-11-24
This book is not really about the aliens, although they do feature. It's about, as the name suggests, Bishop, and his path after he "dies" on the prison planet. It's a good story, well plotted, with appropriate numbers of twists. It is told from the point of view of a few characters, narrated by different people. I have listened to a few Alien audio books. This one is less action and more character development but it is still very good.

Great drama, great story, great characters.
Revisado: 04-25-24
I understand this is part of a world view Jeremy Robinson has written about before but I hadn't read any of these. I didn't have any problems understanding this story however. The concept was unique and the storyline exciting and moved along at a steady pace with lots of drama. The writing was excellent, funny and clever. The character development was good making me really invested at the end. It goes without saying that RC Bray's narration was superb. I loved this so much I'm going to track down the other novels in this universe setting now.

I love these books. I cannot get enough. I like all of Larry Correia's books, but these ones are the best. They are so funny and witty and clever. It helps if you've read the first book, but you could probably manage without it. Adam Baldwin's narration is spectacular. I hope we see more of these, I will be waiting.

Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Couldn't put it down. Again.
Revisado: 11-12-23
Pre-ordered this after reading book 1 in the series (Fourth Wing) and finding that so good I couldn't stop listening until it was early morning. This one is just as good. Violet and Xaden are at least together in this book after a lot of "will they, won't they" in the last book, but as always, the course of true love does not run smooth. Rebecca Yarros draws on her significant experience of romance novels in these books, and this book still feels, perhaps even more than the last, a bit more Mills and Boon than fantasy for my taste. It is saved from going over that edge (just) by the quality of the rest of the story, the writing and the absolutely superb narration. The story is long, I kept thinking it will end here... no it's still going, but it is really good, lots of drama and a few unforseen twists that we all love. I REALLY hope we don't have to wait too long for the next book, the suspense will kill me.

Historia
When the Australian Mystery Writers' Society invited me to their crime-writing festival aboard the Ghan, the famous train between Darwin and Adelaide, I was hoping for some inspiration for my second book. Fiction, this time: I needed a break from real people killing each other. Obviously, that didn't pan out. The program is a who's who of crime-writing royalty. But when one of us is murdered, six authors quickly turn into five detectives. Together, we should know how to solve a crime. Or commit one.

Unique POV, very enjoyable.
Revisado: 10-22-23
This is the second book from this author after Everyone in my family has killed somebody, which is also excellent. The mode of writing and style is identical but still very good. The story is captivating and the plot is clever. The only thing that let's this down is the narrator who sniffs repeatedly. This should be an absolute contradiction to hiring someone to narrate audiobooks. It is, without a doubt, THE most annoying thing you can have to listen to. Either get this guy some decongestants or hire someone else, this book is too good for this narrator.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Amazing story. Loved the narrator
Revisado: 08-05-23
I read the reviews and nearly didn't get this because a couple of people said the narrator was bad. Absolutely not. She was fantastic for the character. Some people said she was "breathy" but I didn't notice anything at all except the great story unfolding. The usual girl meets boy, girl hates boy then falls for him (oops spoiler alert) is timeless but is expertly woven into this kind of Hunger games type training school scenario - with dragons. I have pre-ordered book 2 and cannot wait.

A man has been brutally murdered in one of the city’s oldest buildings - a library where the English citizens of Quebec safeguard their history. And the death opens a door into the past, exposing a mystery that has lain dormant for centuries... a mystery Gamache must solve if he’s to catch a present-day killer.

Disappointing on many fronts
Revisado: 04-24-23
I loved Louise Penny's books til now; her writing is brilliant. The clever turns of phrase, the evocative scenes and the plots, but this book does absolutely nothing for me. It runs 3 stories in parallel; a current case, a reworking of an old case, and a drama in the lives of the characters. I guess it's just me, but when mystery authors start writing about their characters instead of writing mystery, they've lost me. If I wanted Days of our Lives I would buy Mills and Boon. I want the mystery not the Kardashians type drama. And there was waaay too much politics in this. I'm off to find another author who can remember what the point of mystery writing is.
