As an immortal not-ghost, he can transition between this world and the otherplane, which makes him the perfect thief for hire. For 70 years he's made a "living" returning items to their rightful owners, seeing his fair share of the bizarre in the process. But he's never witnessed murder. Until now.

Toxic relationship.

Self absorbed MC with an abusive, narcissistic boyfriend. Not a healthy ever after. The rest of the series is as bad or worse.

Maddeningly clueless, ineffectual characters.
Revisado: 07-31-24
Frustrating read. Characters miss obvious clues and connections. In a crisis, they dither and freeze.

Historia
To understand the roots of personality is to understand motivations and influences that shape behavior, which in turn reflect how you deal with the opportunities and challenges of everyday life. That's the focus of these exciting 24 lectures, in which you examine the differences in people's personalities, where these differences come from, and how they shape our lives. Drawing on information gleaned from psychology, neuroscience, and genetics, Professor Leary opens the door to understanding how personality works and why.

Historia
The year is 2033. The world has been reduced to rubble. Humanity is nearly extinct and the half-destroyed cities have become uninhabitable through radiation. Beyond their boundaries, they say, lie endless burned-out deserts and the remains of splintered forests. Survivors still remember the past greatness of humankind, but the last remains of civilisation have already become a distant memory. Man has handed over stewardship of the earth to new life-forms. A few score thousand survivors live on, not knowing whether they are the only ones left on Earth....

This is excellent, anthropological sci-fi!
Revisado: 04-28-21
The narrator is excellent, giving each character a unique voice so that I always knew who was speaking.
The story explores proper sci-fi themes such as what it means to be human, the relationship between the individual and the society, the limits of thinking and perception. at the same time, the author develops an epic hero storyline very subtly, so that I wasn't really conscious of it until reflecting on it after I finished the book. And there was action and suspense that made the story hard to put down.
An enormously satisfying listen!

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

First Hugo & Nebula winner I didn't like.
Revisado: 04-28-21
The narration was passable but the characters all had the same voice.
The story was generic, but in an original setting. The main character's behavior was oddly out of character during the climax of the story, making the events seem contrived. A lot in this book seemed contrived, like the author had no passion for the story or characters or message and nothing insightful to share. It felt like she was shoehorning in the elements that would get the book noticed. It got the awards, but it felt like that was the whole motivation for the book.

Sleep is the subject of intense scientific debate among biologists and neuroscientists. Why must we spend about one-third of our lives asleep? What exactly is sleep? Why does a lack of sleep impair our cognitive abilities and leave us vulnerable to a host of medical issues ranging from obesity to reduced resistance to infectious disease?

Ignore complaints about the reader...
Revisado: 12-15-18
This is a richly in-depth set of scientific lectures on a complex subject. The professor's enthusiasm for and fascination with the subject are contagious! There is much factual information in each lecture, so less time is given to purely entertaining the listener. If you enjoy the thrill of discovery, and find good science entertaining in itself, you'll listen to this one more than once.
