One night, Chester, a visionary homeless man (or an insane one, depending on your point of view) "sees" Francesca hovering over the river, bathed in celestial light. I enjoyed this book once I found the website to follow along. His descriptions are so good - but the pictures and maps on the website really help to follow along.

I am surprised I liked it!
Revisado: 04-19-05
I kept thinking the main character was kind of wierd, but at the same time I really liked listening to his thoughts. Without treating them as victims - it gives a unique point of view on how mental illness affects family members.I did not want it to end - and when it did I wanted a sequal.

a fresh view of women in the 1930's
Revisado: 03-20-05
It seems in so many stories of women in the 1930's they are the downtrodden of the depression of America. This is a different view - for both Clara and her sister. Something new and different. I enjoyed the whole book

Historia
Jimmy Tock comes into the world on the very night his grandfather leaves it. As a violent storm rages outside the hospital, Rudy Tock spends long hours walking the corridors between the expectant fathers' waiting room and his dying father's bedside. It's a strange vigil made all the stranger when, at the very height of the storm's fury, Josef Tock suddenly sits up in bed and speaks coherently for the frist and last time since his stroke. What he says before he dies is that there will be five dark days in the life of his grandson.

Fun - but kind of corney
Revisado: 02-09-05
I liked this ok.However, the strange occupations, unusual family members, whacky statements that in the beginning were quirky and funny soon became corney and dumb.Though I usually like the long version, this one I would suggest abbriged. Not the best by this author.
