Agatha Award-winning author Rhys Bowen’s charming combination of intrigue and romance blended with a touch of humor shines when performed by Audible Hall of Fame narrator Katherine Kellgren, whose deft range and impeccable accent work make it hard to believe this isn’t a multicast performance.

Good fun
Revisado: 08-22-12
Where does Her Royal Spyness rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I liked this first book in the series enough to continue the series.
What did you like best about this story?
The presentation of the class divisions in Great Britain is interesting. Of course we have class divisions in the U.S., but it is good to remember the way it permeated every aspect of London society and perhaps still does.
Have you listened to any of Katherine Kellgren’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I don't know. She was fine.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was surprised by the ending, which is always a pleasure.

Historia
The cruel and bizarre slaying of a beautiful teen leads Detective Decker into the dark heart of an exotic subculture: the seamy, sometimes violent world of Southern California's rootless, affluent youth. But even the confession of a disturbed kid with cold "killer eyes" cannot soothe Decker's inner torment. For he knows in his gut this crime goes much deeper and higher than anyone expects - and that true justice, brutal and complete, has yet to be done.

Not fabulous, but entertaining enough
Revisado: 08-22-12
If you could sum up Justice in three words, what would they be?
I enjoy listening to this series because I can follow the books pretty well while driving. They don't need my full attention. They aren't great literature but it is nice to visit the Decker/Lazarus household once in a while. I could stand fewer references to their Jewishness. It distracts from the plot and seems didactic. (For insights into the Jewish culture/religion/ethics, I much preferred the Rabbi Small series by Harry Kemelman.) That said, I will continue to listen to the series and that's the final test, after all.
If you’ve listened to books by Faye Kellerman before, how does this one compare?
This entry falls in the middle--not the best, not the worst.
Have you listened to any of Mitchell Greenberg’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I don't know. She wasn't intrusive or distracting, so I didn't make note of her name.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not at all. In fact, that is a benefit when one is listening on a commute. You can "put it down" so to speak.
Any additional comments?
I commend the site for the series links. They are extremely helpful.

Historia
When Colton Burpo made it through an emergency appendectomy, his family was overjoyed at his miraculous survival. What they weren’t expecting, though, was the story that emerged in the months that followed—a story as beautiful as it was extraordinary, detailing their little boy’s trip to heaven and back.

Disappointing with Its Smugness
Revisado: 06-24-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Telling a believable story instead of more Christian propaganda.
What could Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
They probably couldn't have done anything since they are consumed with the judgmental (this is the only way) aspects of their religion.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
A more professional voice would have been preferable but the content was obviously as planted in the child's mind as the unethical psychologists who plant false memories of abuse.
Any additional comments?
The author lost me the minute he spouted the party line claiming Jesus told the little boy that his way was the ONLY way to heaven. This is the kind of narrow thinking that brings on wars in the name of religion. After that ridiculous claim, the author lost all credibility.

Listening was as enjoyable as reading
Revisado: 05-06-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Night over Water to be better than the print version?
I had read this book when it was first published and remembered it was good but couldn't remember the story. It was very enjoyable.
What did you like best about this story?
The dramatic tension built by the timing of the story, most of which occurred in a 24-hour period.
What about Tom Casaletto’s performance did you like?
His voice was non-intrusive but carried enough emotion to avoid being deadpan.
