I didn't learn much from this book and I'm fairly naive when it comes to learning about Yoruba divination and the Orishas. I thought this book would offer a more in-depth analysis on each orisha but the info provided could've easily been found on the internet.

Historia
A collection of essays spanning politics, criticism, and feminism from one of the most-watched young cultural observers of her generation, Roxane Gay. In these funny and insightful essays, Roxane Gay takes us through the journey of her evolution as a woman ( Sweet Valley High) of color ( The Help) while also taking listeners on a ride through culture of the last few years ( Girls, Django in Chains) and commenting on the state of feminism today (abortion, Chris Brown).

A Hodgepodge of Topics
Revisado: 07-02-20
I got confused reading this book because many of the essays had nothing to do with feminism or being a bad one. Roxane Gay covered many things in pop culture, from headline news stories to reality TV. I don't know, I just remembered listening to the book and thinking the narrator was pretty good but this book is just all over the place.

Historia
Why isn't your love life where you want it to be? Are you going to point fingers at the quality of today's men, blame the city that you live in, or come up with the defense that you don't have the energy to date? You pretend to be working on yourself, but you secretly hope and wish that Prince Charming will fall in your lap. You make the excuse that it's not you, it's the men, but there is something inside of you that knows the common denominator in all of your failed relationships was you!

Good book, wrong narrator.
Revisado: 06-17-20
I enjoyed listening to this book but I just couldn't get over the narrator's voice. The content of this book requires a different type of tone, voice & delivery and I don't think this narrator was the right person for the job. He has a great voice but not for this book.

Charlamagne is a character LOL
Revisado: 06-01-20
I loved this book. I suggest getting the audiobook version because Charlamagne is hilarious. It's great to hear about Charlemagne's southern upbringing, his trials & tribulations, his views on being a black man in America and how it may have affected his career and relationships.
I've followed Charlamagne's career since he started working in NYC and even tho I don't always agree with him, I'm still a fan. I'm proud of his growth & successes.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Historia
Tiffany can't avoid being funny: it's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays - it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. A woman who was able to achieve her dreams by reveling in her pain and awkwardness, showing the world who she really is, and inspiring others through the power of laughter.

The Last Black Unicorn was better than what I expected. Tiffany Haddish did a great job narrating this book. I really enjoyed listening to this book. Tiffany is a strong woman. She persevered and accomplished so much. She's an inspiration to many. And she tells her story in such a hilarious way. LOL

Historia
Just Ask the Universe is not a book of New Age gobbledygook filled with empty promises. Angels won't fly from above and touch you while you're listening. You will not be asked to practice unusual or tedious rituals. There will be no preaching or sage advice and there will most certainly be no channeling of your inner chakras or dressing like Friar Tuck. Just Ask the Universe is a realistic guide to personal development.

Healing Starts With Us

I really liked listening to this book. This is actually my first time listening to a book and I will definitely do it again. The narrator was good and this book helped me understand that I do have the power to heal myself as long as I believe. I will try and apply what I've learned and hope to see that I will overcome my health issues. God is good.
