Historia
For as long as she can remember, Samantha Song has dreamed of writing for a high-society magazine—and she’d do anything to get there. But the constant struggle to help her mom make ends meet and her low social status cause her dream to feel like a distant fantasy. Now Samantha finds herself working at a drab PR firm. Living vicariously through her wealthy coworker and friend, Anya Chen, is the closest she’ll get to her ideal life. Until she meets Timothy Kingston: the disillusioned son of one of Singapore’s elite families.

More Fraud please!

It was an okay enough story to listen to but not something I’d return to or remember after a while. 39 chapters felt like a waste for a story that could’ve wrapped up in 20. For a debut it’s not bad but I have hope that the author can only go up from here.

Historia
For cynical 23-year-old August, moving to New York City is supposed to prove her right: that things like magic and cinematic love stories don’t exist, and the only smart way to go through life is alone. She can’t imagine how waiting tables at a 24-hour pancake diner and moving in with too many weird roommates could possibly change that. And there’s certainly no chance of her subway commute being anything more than a daily trudge through boredom and electrical failures.

A sweet and exciting story

This is a book I haven’t stopped thinking about since I listened a few months ago. The performance was incredible, the characters and friend group were so hard not to fall in love with and August and Jane are a love story for the ages. This is the standard for wlw romance for me.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Deeply insightful

If you’ve had or have an abusive mother you know this story and I’m forever grateful Jennette shared hers and the complexities of it all with us. She’s a beautiful writer and you feel every single word.
