Historia
All Kat wants to do is run her own life. But it seems as though everyone else has competing plans for her. Her commander of the Bosch Pirate Force wants her to lead. Her husband wants her to abandon her pirating ways. Her mother-in-law wouldn’t mind seeing her dead. And her past enslaver, Rob Abernathy, wants her back. As listeners of A Merry Life know, Kat is fearless, principled, and determined to settle old scores. When a face from her past spurs a dangerous mission, she jumps at the opportunity, unaware that it will have explosive results.

Good strong woman lead

I really enjoyed this first in a series book! The characters and setting are well developed. The story is intriguing. Set in the future, this story isn’t nerdy futuristic, but believable. The author has given us hope for some things changing but has left some unfortunate societal norms still in place for the main character to have to deal with.
The audio book is well read, although there are a couple of editing hiccups - not enough to hurt the story. I still enjoyed having this story read for me.
I’m looking forward to the second book to find out what happens next.

Historia
It is 1806 - not a good time to be Catholic in Boston. When a man is brutally killed on the Boston Post Road, two unsuspecting Irishmen are charged with the crime. For five months they rot in prison, denied a lawyer until just two days before the hearing. It is a mockery of justice - a one-day trial that results in a unanimous verdict: The Irishmen will be hanged, dissected, and dismembered.

Deep rich story

I wanted to read this book because it is set in Western Mass where I live. I pass by a memorial to the two men in the story regularly. I wanted to know their story but did not expect such a well written engrossing book as this. The audio book is very well performed. I finished it while taking my daily walk and came home with tears streaming down my face. I’ll be listening to other books by Mr. White.
