The story slowly builds from seemingly random fantasy into a potentially plausible world that makes sense. The psychology, politics, and history here inspire me to reconsider the nature of civilization.

A MUCH better novel than the sample suggests

This is a MUCH better novel than the sample suggests. As a former USMC enlisted intelligence analyst married to a Cambodian Genocide survivor, I'm acutely aware of the competing narratives placing blame for the rise of Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge communists. This book avoids that debate directly, but details our presents in Cambodian and in Vietnam in conjunction with the clash of superpowers among corrupt native actors that IMHO would eventually sets the stage for Cambodia's demise. I know of no other book that does this so well!

If you know very little about AI and want to know more, and can you can put up with Long winded explanations, this is the book for you.

Excellent flow, Very good story telling

Unlike the in Skyward, concepts in Starsight are rarely over-explained. It's more dense with lots of moving parts but sill very readable without jumping back and forth through time or through too many parallel substories.

I should probably give it 5 Stars but attention needs to be brought to one missing quality. The awe inspiring heroics that were so well developed and surprisingly sprung in Skyward, and in some other Sanderson works, were not as engrossing here. Yes, there were awesome heroics, but they didn't tug an my emotions as much.

Still, it's a VERY smart and enjoyable 14 hour epic through the eyes of thoroughly likable heroes!

An excellent perspective of Buddhist moral and philosophical concepts, most of which are relevant today'. I wish I could get my 14 year old to read this.

By far Brandon Sanderson's Greatest Book!

I'm 56, and just recently got back into fiction after 30 years. "Skyward" is the only Brandon Sanderson book I've listened to more than once... three times to be exact. It has all I appreciate from the 10 books of his I've read:
- Fiction and fantasy that's relevant to reality,
- Unpredictability, and
- Heroic revelations that are personal yet so understated that they bring tears to my eyes!

But "Skyward" is in a league of its own because of its linear progression in a SINGLE story line that's soooo much more enjoyable to read without having to associate characters from various timeline snippets whose significance was not clear enough to care to remember from 50 pages back. It's simple enough for many gradeschoolers to appreciate, but only because so much irrelevant fantasy details are stripped out, not because ANYTHING has been dumbed down. Enjoy!

Tedious, but insightful and uniquely valuable!

Tedious in the beginning, but soon pics up to give context to the most unique disruption of democracy in America. Thoroughly investigated like no one other than an FBI agent could achieve. Nothing's overstated or sensationalized. It's a methodical yet profound timeline of how the Obama Administration weaponized our investigative and security agencies to illegally take out a opposition candidate, and it's sobering to recognize that we would never know this had they succeeded.

More comical that other Sanderson Books

Entertaining 90% of the time, not as complex as Sanderson's Stormlight Archive nor quite as heroic, and surprisingly a little sex too... I didn't expect that from him LOL!

It's excellent entertainment while driving or doing grunt work.
