Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Memoir-a historical account or biography, personal
Revisado: 02-11-23
I've only read very few autobiographies. All from persons I admired. I enjoyed learning about Prince Harry and Megan. I admire his honesty about his own memories. I identified with his feelings, and his frustration when someone tries to dissuade your own personal emotions as false. I very much enjoyed his reading as some authors are not natural narrators, or may add strong emphasis to their dialogue. I think, as an American, the most surprising discoveries were that old fashioned traditions and protocols I had only seen in movies or read in historical romance novels, are still practiced, still observed.

Historia
On a rocky beach in the southwest of Ireland, the body of Jimmy O’Reilly, sixty-nine years old and dressed in a suit and his dancing shoes, is propped on a boulder, staring sightlessly out to sea. A cryptic message is spelled out next to the body with sixty-nine polished black stones and a discarded vial of deadly veterinarian medication lies nearby. Jimmy was a wealthy racehorse owner, known far and wide as The Dancing Man. In a town like Dingle, everyone knows a little something about everyone else. But dig a bit deeper, and there’s always much more to find.

A good mystery. A dry reading
Revisado: 11-13-22
I enjoyed the story. The mystery has a lot of twists and turns. My experience with Carlene O'Connor's work has been with the Irish Village Mystery Series, so I was expecting more humor in this novel. But it is a straight murder mystery. I also stopped the listen early on to double check on the narrator. I enjoy hearing the Irish lilt for narration of stories with Irish names and locations. This particular audible is really just a reading, with no male/female voices or other performance-type narration. I needed to set the playback speed up to 115% to avoid issues with unusually long pauses. That might be an editing issue and not the norm for the reader.

I have exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes to get from Boston to New York City or the professional opportunity of a lifetime disappears. My only travel option? The second to last seat on a discount bus. Across from the bathroom. Wearing last night’s clothes (don’t ask). All worth it if I can make it in time.

The narration is fantastic and the directing and editing brought it all to perfection.

After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

I liked Little Big Man better.
Revisado: 06-11-22
I'm stopping in chap 16 of 30 of this 12 hour long audible book. At this point I've stopped and started so many times, listened to other books, then found that this one couldn't even have me bother to go back and refresh my memory of the long, droning on storyline.
It started with potential. And the synopsis was intriguing. But I found myself comparing it to the movie "Little Big Man" (US 1970), and even the escapades of "Forrest Gump" (movie, US 1994), and rating this story as much less thought provoking or entertaining. Even with the implied history lessons forced upon you.
I truly dislike giving up on a book, but I cannot relinguish any more time on this one.
Not my cup of tea.

Surprisingly funny and sweet
Revisado: 05-09-22
I won't deny there was a moment starting out when I thought "oh, that's like that movie." And yet, even though the theme around weddings has a lot of familiarity, the whole book had me giggling, laughing, exclaiming "oh no", and truly thoroughly enjoying the ride. The performance was brilliant and carried the humor and sweetness throughout the story. I was not familiar with Katy Birchall's novels, but I will be checking out her other work.

Loved it! Each novel in this series is more delightful. I relistened to the whole series before starting this book and can honestly say I chuckled, giggled, laughed and put off a LOT of chores while enjoying this release. Loved the twists and turns in the plot too. Well done Carleen O'Connor! I can't wait for more of the story!!

Really liked this story. Don't want to jinx or turn anybody off, but for me it had an inspirational feel. It's a sweet romance, and I'm left longing for a real life app that would encourage me in such a tailored, personal way to find my fit, healthy, happier self.

Paint your toes. Pick up the wrong coffee and bagel order. Drive from Brooklyn to Jersey in traffic so slow you want to tear your hair out. It’s amazing all the useless things I can accomplish while on hold for three hours with customer service. Three hours when I should be getting the Date-in-a-Box website ready to launch at the big business expo in a few days. Except my shiny new website is glitching, and my inner rage-monster is ready to scorch some earth...when he finally picks up. Not the robot voice I expected but a real live human named Kal.

Stick with it.
Revisado: 12-06-20
I wasn't sure at first if this story was for me. The plot was clever and cute, the narrator was lovely. The beginning was a little confusing. With names that were kind if similiar and the narrator's accent, as an American I admit I had to go back sometimes to be sure I knew which character was speaking.
But I'm very pleased that I stayed with the book to the end. I Really liked Kate's work and also the other characters' jobs and personalities. I felt they were realistic and I liked the descriptions of the town.
I also felt Kate's reactions to her situations was beliveable. Some great dialogue. I'd reccomend for a good holiday rom-com read. It would make a good movie.
