Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Facinating Listen
Revisado: 06-03-18
For me it was a vision into a world that I didn't think existed. All families have their own secrets and visions of the world but this was extreme and I found the story fascinating and compelling. Tara is an amazing woman.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Amazing Story
Revisado: 12-28-16
Great listen. The story is amazing and Trevor telling his own story adds more depth and reality, I have a much greater understanding of Apartheid and got a true image of the impact on people. There are many laugh out loud moments between the stories of challenging times. I now have even more respect for Trevor and his insight and intelligence knowing all of the challenges he faced growing up.

He now answers to the SS, one of the most powerful and terrifying organizations in the Third Reich. Now assigned a job he did not ask for and cannot refuse: rounding up Jews for deportation. Good concept but maybe too many escapes
Revisado: 01-26-15
I was drawn to this book by the idea of England if the Nazis won the war. London was as dark as I expected and the backround story was very good. The hero was like a McGiver of the 1940s though and he escaped even falling six stories through a wooden door onto conveniently located cotton bales. That escape was one of about a dozen or more. I think that's where the absurdity of the multiple escapes kind of took over. I do like the story and did listen to the end but maybe a little less almost getting caught by someone and a bit more character development might have made the story more believable.

Historia
Grace Reinhart Sachs is living the only life she ever wanted for herself. Devoted to her husband, a pediatric oncologist at a major cancer hospital, their young son Henry, and the patients she sees in her therapy practice, her days are full of familiar things: She lives in the very New York apartment in which she was raised, and sends Henry to the school she herself once attended. Dismayed by the ways in which women delude themselves, Grace is also the author of a book You Should Have Known, in which she cautions women to really hear what men are trying to tell them.

Good Story
Revisado: 04-24-14
This is a good though predictable story. The evolution of Grace and her growth keeps you involved in the story. Also Jonathan is never "seen" in the story but the story revolves around him and you are kept wondering if he will show up and ruin the new life Grace is building. There are a few brief spots where I wanted the story to move a little faster but it is a good listen.

Historia
From the celebrated author of The Secret Life of Bees, a magnificent novel about two unforgettable American women. Writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts, Sue Monk Kidd presents a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and the desire to have a voice in the world - and it is now the newest Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection. Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

Story is a bit of a stretch
Revisado: 03-29-14
This is a well written book but the story seemed a bit far fetched to me. I liked the characters but Sarah was just too "modern" to believe. I am sure that a young girl might object to slavery after seeing the cruel punishments given by her family but the transformation seems too extreme to me. Handful and Charlotte were interesting characters who provided insight into slaves lives. Overall the book is good but I was left wondering if any woman in the early 1800s would have the same ambitions as Sarah.

Historia
Princeton, New Jersey, at the turn of the 20th century: a tranquil place to raise a family, a genteel town for genteel souls. But something dark and dangerous lurks at the edges of the town, corrupting and infecting its residents. Vampires and ghosts haunt the dreams of the innocent. A powerful curse besets the elite families of Princeton; their daughters begin disappearing. A young bride on the verge of the altar is seduced and abducted by a dangerously compelling man - a shape-shifting, vaguely European prince who might just be the devil.

Confused story with too much detail
Revisado: 04-05-13
This story was odd and I wasn't sure what kind of demons or if there were demons or just obnoxious self centered people in Princeton. I thought some of the characters were not pertinent to the story and was occassionally distracted by their story lines. I am still not sure if this was all someones dream or drug induced hallucination as there were many drugs taken by many different people in this book. And if Woodrow Wilson was really that sickly and insecure we are lucky we survived as a nation with him as President.

Historia
For decades, December 21, 2012, has been a touchstone for doomsayers worldwide. It is the date, they claim, when the ancient Maya calendar predicts the world will end. In Los Angeles, two weeks before, all is calm. Dr. Gabriel Stanton takes his usual morning bike ride, drops off the dog with his ex-wife, and heads to the lab where he studies incurable prion diseases for the CDC. His first phone call is from a hospital resident who has an urgent case she thinks he needs to see.

Good take on the Mayan calendar end of the world story. What I liked best was the Mayan history I learned. The stroy combines all the folklore with an epidemic. Fun, easy listening on a long road trip.

Different but interesting.
Revisado: 09-04-12
Good story with characters you care about whether or not you like them. It had some twists that I didn't expect which kept my interest. The main character holds his emotions in close check so it felt at times as if he was narrating someone else's story. It was his survival mechanism and was well used in this story.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

I truly enjoyed this book. Loved that settings and characters from other Stephen King books showed up. The story was intriguing and the ending was not what I expected but the right one I think.
