Historia
Raised in the wilderness by her late great-uncle, Vida is a young woman with an almost preternatural affinity for nature, especially for the wolves that also call the forested mountains home. Formed by hard experience, by love and loss, and by the prophecies of a fortuneteller, Vida just wants peace. If only nearby Kettleton County didn’t cast such a dark shadow.

Not For Me
Revisado: 01-19-25
I ran out of eye-rolls by page 100. Koontz loves to wax eloquent in is clumsy sort of way, and grab obscure words that sometimes fit the narrative. The reader was pretty good but didn’t have much to work with.

Pretty Good War Story
Revisado: 01-11-24
Good engaging story. Terrible narration - there were so many mispronunciations of simple words I kept wondering if English was the second language for this guy. Maybe he just didn’t care to do his homework. I will be reading the rest of the series on Kindle.

Great Novels Superb Recitation
Revisado: 11-26-23
These Aubrey/Maturin books are the best novels ever written. Patrick Tull is the perfect voice for the stories. Thought I’ve read them many times, I find the oral recitation adds a wonderful new dimension. Highly recommend Patrick O’Brian read by Patrick Tull.

Former soldier. Ex-copper. Current man on the edge. Shunned by his old colleagues, and dividing his time between a dead-end job and the bottom of a whisky bottle, former Police Scotland detective superintendent Bob Hoon’s life is a mess. Then an old face from Hoon’s Special Forces days turns up asking for help: His teenage daughter has been missing for months, the police have drawn a blank, and he needs the kind of help that only Hoon can provide. And besides, Hoon owes him one.

Loved everything about this. Great story, but I think it would have been rather tepid without the beautiful narration. Crusty old Hoon came through in spades

Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Historia
It is 1964. The Vietnam War has begun to escalate, its new style of battle demanding new weapons and tactics and men who can use them. Overnight, it seems, the U.S. Army must scramble to create its first-ever Air Assault Division, a force critical to its chances of success, but the obstacles facing it are staggering: untrained men, mysteriously failing aircraft, vicious inter-service rivalries. As the hostilities increase, the warriors and the women who love them are swept into the struggle, their personal and professional lives twisting and intertwining as they race against time — and the fortunes of war.

Fun Read
Revisado: 05-09-22
Another excellent Griffin military novel. Most of it rings true to this old retired aviator. For the most part the narration was excellent but there were irritating things that detracted - mispronounced place names and military jargon - this is not unimportant because it brings the story to a jarring stop every time it happens. I suggest that all readers take the time to learn the correct pronunciations before recording or at least as he/she encounters an unfamiliar place name or acronym.

Historia
On July 22, 2009, a special meeting was held with 24 leading scientists at the National Institutes of Health to discuss early findings that a newly discovered retrovirus was linked to chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), prostate cancer, lymphoma, and eventually neurodevelopmental disorders in children. When Dr. Judy Mikovits finished her presentation the room was silent for a moment, then one of the scientists said, "Oh my God!" The resulting investigation would be like no other in science.

If all the scientists had the same moral compass as Dr Mikovits we would live in a better world. She was right all along but in the end was not able to help the patients who motivated her work. She is one of the first victims of what we now call the “cancel culture.” A brief search of her name online will tell you how complete her cancellation is - all based on lies and half truths. This is what the left does so well. We were all clearly shown the corruption of the world scientific community in its handling of the COVID response. She and all ME-CFS patients are its victims.

Brave Patriots Tested
Revisado: 07-12-21
Well written, detailed account of our brave men tested to the max. Narration was mostly competent, but his affected depiction of radio communications was disgustingly silly and stupid. Only a little homework should have been necessary to get the tone and manner of these correct.

For the past 30 years, David Mamet has been a controversial and defining force in theater and film, championing the most cherished liberal values along the way. In some of the great movies and plays of our time, his characters have explored the ethics of the business world, embodied the struggles of the oppressed, and faced the flaws of the capitalist system. But in recent years Mamet has had a change of heart.

Historia
This, the first in the splendid series of Jack Aubrey novels, establishes the friendship between Captain Aubrey, Royal Navy, and Stephen Maturin, ship's surgeon and intelligence agent, against the thrilling backdrop of the Napoleonic wars. Details of life aboard a man-of-war in Nelson's navy are faultlessly rendered: the conversational idiom of the officers in the ward room and the men on the lower deck, the food, the floggings, the mysteries of the wind and the rigging, and the road of broadsides as the great ships close in battle.

These Are the Best Novels Ever Written
Revisado: 12-23-11
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, 100%. Master and Commander begins a great adventure that takes most people years to complete -- what joy!
Which character – as performed by Patrick Tull – was your favorite?
Maturin, but he does all so well it's hard to choose. I've read this whole series in print numerous times, and I'm finding them a wonderful new adventure because of Tull's perfect interpretation.
Who was the most memorable character of Master and Commander and why?
Aubrey and Maturin. Their personalities are so well developed and portrayed -- sets up the rest of the series exceptionally well. Bet you can't read just one. . .
