I've been following Tanya Eby's writings for a while, and I always look forward to when a new blog post of hers has released. Her writing always captivates me with its wit, wisdom, and vulnerability. I always feel like I'm chatting with a close friend when I read her works, even though I've only met her online and never in person. Furthermore, her narration is delightful to listen to. She's a seasoned pro in the narration industry, and it shows.

As of this review posting, I've narrated 60 books and hit my stride with audiobooks in the last year. All of the information I've worked to fumble together over the last few years is conveniently located in this handbook, so it's a must read for all narrators getting started! Truly, it would have saved me a lot of time and frustration to read this first.

While this is a practical guide for narration, I highly recommend reading her memoir "The Tuesday Girl." I think the heart of a narrator is paramount to their skills as a storyteller, and Tanya Eby is such a gift for sharing her story with us. It's a poignant, heartfelt, relatable book, and Tanya just has a way of putting words together and articulating complex thoughts in a way I could only dream to.

I loved this short romance audiobook! It was the perfect length to enjoy while relaxing before bed. I'd say short and sweet.... but it was actually short and SPICY!

Caden Hart has a great voice for romance. He really has that bad boy/edgy sound to his voice that is so perfect for this book! I definitely look forward to hearing more!

This was my third time reading this book, but my first time listening. This book has everything I want in a romance! I loved hearing it performed on audio.

In the early reviews, technical issues were mentioned, but those have since been fixed

I’ve been reading the author’s blog, and I just love how open, raw, and vulnerable her writing is. I’ve had this book on my TBR list since it came out, and once it finally had its turn, I devoured the audiobook in three days.

Tanya’s memoir is so incredibly relatable. I was enraptured throughout her story and very much enjoyed her narration as well. I’ve considered writing a memoir myself, and she’s inspiring me to finally do so.

For anyone who’s experienced the woes of trauma and a dysfunctional upbringing, it’s natural to subconsciously gravitate toward dysfunctional people and relationships. It’s hard to trust yourself when what feels like “home” isn’t what’s healthy. This memoir is a perfect vignette of this human experience.

Tanya’s play-by-play of self-discovery on her road to love, independence, and happiness is so real and visceral. I felt like I was listening to a friend and cheering her on as she finds herself and learns to set boundaries. Her self-discoveries are so insightful, that I feel like I’ve grown just from listening to this audiobook. She’s able to put things into words that I’ve struggled to communicate for years.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful part of yourself, Tanya. I can’t wait to discuss this tomorrow in book club!

This was such a fun duet audiobook. I met the narrators at a conference this weekend and couldn’t wait to listen to one of their duets. The story was so cute and their performances were wonderful. They had me engaged throughout this sweet romance.

A MUST-READ in the Entertainment Business

Wow. This book. Where was this book when I first embarked on my journey into the entertainment business?? Marc speaks so many essential truths in this book - ones that I had to learn the long and hard way.

First of all - Marc did a fabulous job narrating his book. I loved hearing his story through his own voice, and highly recommend the audiobook experience. I found myself wanting to highlight and revisit sections of the book, so I bought the hardcover edition as well!

Early in the book, he mentions the all-too-familiar calling to the entertainment business. This is something I felt deep in my soul early on... but knowing exactly how to go after it (while balancing this thing called life) is the big question for everyone. Lucky for Marc, he was able to witness the spirit of entrepreneurship early on from his mother. Being an entrepreneur is the core of pursuing a career in entertainment, and Marc makes that a major principle of his book.

Though I had the ambition, work-ethic, and tenacity required from the beginning, I had to stumble my way into figuring out what entrepreneurship meant to create my own opportunities in this cut-throat business. It's something I wish I would have figured out earlier. I’ve spent my life training for a career in acting, and, while I took several “business of acting” classes, they mostly focused on headshots, resumes, etc…. I don’t think entrepreneurship was ever really the focus. I love that Marc honed in on this principle from the start.

Like Marc, I started out in the pursuit of a career film and television, but found my home in Voice-Over. But I think this book is relevant and valuable for anyone pursuing a career in the entertainment business, whether you’re an agent, talent, producer, or any other piece of the puzzle.

So many points are spot on. Here are some of my favorite takeaways from “Instincts of a Talent Agent:”

- Never sacrifice who you are (know your values, priorities, and boundaries, and stick to them, or you’ll lose yourself in this business)
- We all screw up, but your reactions and attitude means everything
- Persistence is key
- Listen to your gut (I’ve made my biggest mistakes in this industry by ignoring my gut feeling. This is HUGE.)
- Be a human being, not a human doing
- Have a great attitude and gratitude, keep your ego in check, don’t take things personally, be authentic, and have integrity
- Never make excuses. Be accountable. Show up. Do the work.
- Know when to let go (Oof - this one hit hard for me. I spent YEARS working on producing films in a toxic environment… I should have let go sooner)
- KNOW YOURSELF. Choose a partner who complements and enriches you
- Find balance

I am incredibly grateful to Marc for graciously detailing some of his mistakes and pitfalls in his journey and all the valuable lessons he learned. These humbling mishaps happen to everyone, and it's encouraging to hear the stories from successful entrepreneurs like Marc who learned from his mistakes and KEPT GOING, found balance, and maintained a great attitude. That’s something we should all aspire to.

I feel that this is a manual for success in entertainment. Not a formula or how-to, but an approach to a healthy and sustainable life and career, which I think is the most valuable thing of all. I plan to keep it in my recording booth and refer back to it often.

I loved this book! The story is so much fun that I found it easy to binge-listen to.

The concept of this novel is just divine... or should I say, delightfully devilish? Though she may have gone to hell, the protagonist is quite lovable. Her level of hell is full of petty annoyances, which is hilarious. She also have lots of funny personality quirks, like her colorful hair, love of taxidermy, and her habit of mixing up her idioms. This book is full of comedy and cleverness and had me entertained thoroughly throughout!

This audiobook had me hooked from the beginning, and kept me engaged throughout. I already can't wait for the next book in the series!

Aya, the protagonist, is lovable and caring towards others. She is a magic user who can use her powers to heal others... little does she know, her powers are more special than she thinks.

Her village is attacked, and she's captured, enslaved, and sold to an arena that forces slaves to fight to the death.

This had me thinking a lot about the Colosseum, which I got to see when I traveled to Italy... seeing it blew my mind, and I happened to listen to this audiobook on the one-year anniversary of my visit. It added another element of the story for me to reminisce about the dark yet fascinating history of humanity while engaging in this awesome novel. The magic added another super-cool element to this already tantalizing tale.

The narrator, Zura Johnson, did a fabulous job. Her voice is rich and warm, and she has a talent for breathing life into each character she voices. I'll absolutely be listening to more of her narration in the future.
