Maybe it was a grandparent, or a teacher, or a colleague. Someone older, patient and wise, who understood you when you were young and searching, helped you see the world as a more profound place, gave you sound advice to help you make your way through it.

Still Learning
Revisado: 01-12-24
Some people frown upon audiobooks, calling it cheating. I disagree... watching a movie over reading a book is cheating!
This was a re-read for me. Very rarely do I find a book I'd like to read over, hell I already knows how it ends..... However, I remembered reading this when I was in my 20's and enjoying it, but not too the extent I did this time around in my late 40's. Could this have something to do with experience, living life a little bit, loving, losing and finding again? I believe so.....
I needed this gentle reminder of what's important in life and to live without regret.

I began reading this book with my 15 year old son. We have read other books by the author and this book did not disappoint. This was a phenomenal book showing two sides of 9/11.

That took a turn.....
Revisado: 02-23-22
This was an amazing story. I could hear the authors political opinion in it, which didn't take anything away from the story (for me), but it was because I differ in opinion, that I picked up on it.
I loved the narrator!
As always, Jodi created a gorgeous landscape that I dreamed about at night 🌊🌞🦀🌵.

Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of 16, she's competing for the US Open championship. Chess - Who knew!
Revisado: 12-05-20
I went into this book without a clue of what it was about. I saw it was a new show on Netflix and saw a lot of my friends were enjoying the show, so I figured I'd read the book first. Imagine my surprise when I realized it was about chess.....
Now that I've completed the book and started watching the show, I'm grateful for the insight has given me into how Beth was feeling in each scene.
I struggled with the narrator. Sounded almost computerized. Although I struggled with the narrator and subject of the book, I found myself cheering Beth on, silently of course.
I'm 45 years old and have never once played a game of chess. "I find it too cerebral" 😉

I had to keep reminding myself "current" was 1977 and not 2020. Mental illness was still something people didn't talk about 😕
I would've like more development of the other characters, Margo, Darma, etc....

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Not my typical genre, but glad I gave it a whirl!
As I read, I was wondering how the author would wrap it all up. I was a little disappointed at the ending, but know all good things must end.
