Historia
Before journalist Chelsea Conaboy gave birth, she anticipated the joy of holding her newborn, the endless dirty diapers, and the sleepless nights. What she didn’t expect was how different she would feel—a shift in self, as deep as it was disorienting. Something was changing: her brain. New parents undergo major brain changes, driven by hormones and the deluge of stimuli a baby provides. Conaboy delves into the neuroscience to reveal unexpected upsides, generations of scientific neglect, and a powerful new narrative of parenthood.

If you read one book this year, let it be this
Revisado: 07-03-23
This is an outstanding book that will transform the way you think about mothers and parenthood. We take so much for granted, and assume so many things about what our role should be. Thank you, C Conaboy!

Historia
In the 21st century, it can seem that mothers are blamed and blame themselves for everything, as they struggle to manage their multiple identities as mothers, lovers, sisters, and daughters. Why Mothering Matters is a nuanced and revealing discussion of how it can feel to become a mother in modern society. It calls for better recognition of the work of motherhood and better support for women and families as they learn what parenting looks like for them.

Historia
A startlingly large number of women who want to breastfeed have to stop before they are ready, leaving them feeling a range of negative emotions, including grief, anger, guilt, shame, and frustration. They often blame themselves. But in a society that places little value on breastfeeding and mothers' feelings, their painful stories are often swept under the carpet to the detriment of women's mental health and experience of new motherhood.

I am a new mama who was not able to establish breastfeeding. This threw me into a wild depression and listening to this HURT, but it also helped me so very much. I wish every health care professional would read it.

Neither are any of the versions on Audible. The book is wonderful and I was hoping to kiss ten to it all the way through again rather than read it because I commute a lot now: I don't understand why only the songs are available and why the text is not dictated. Buy the book it's worth it.

Annoying, unhelpful, sometimes irrelevant, and redundant
Revisado: 12-21-21
The first seven chapters are her repeating how the field of medicine can't allow natural births to happen and how she thinks they can. Ok- I get it. Can we move on? Also, this woman is like th Marie Condo of birthing- obnoxiously in love with "the little angels" that we birth ever since she was a small girl. I'm not that person. I was looking for something more functional and evidence based. Of that's what you're looking for, then it's not this book. There is also a whole chapter in this book dedicated to her recounting a cat giving birth. This book is akin to torture.

Historia
Fumio Sasaki changed his life when he became a minimalist. But before minimalism could really stick, he had to make it a habit. All of us live our lives based on the habits we’ve formed, from when we get up in the morning to what we eat and drink to how likely we are to actually make it to the gym. In Hello, Habits, Sasaki explains how we can acquire the new habits that we want - and get rid of the ones that don’t do us any good.

Chapter 3 is indispensable. This is a great listen, thoughtful, and uses lots of other resources (other books and research) that support his ideas. Loved it.
