Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Terrific to read the real story.
Revisado: 08-24-24
This book was a real joy to read as it is so much different from any movie version of Frankenstein. Each character was so well described. The story was so compelling it was hard to stop. The narration was excellent by Dan Stevens. He continues to be an excellent narrator.

Well that was fun!
Revisado: 04-04-24
I have always wanted to read this title by Agatha Christie. The narration by Dan Stevens was outstanding! Each character had a distinct voice that was flawless. You never had to guess who was "speaking". The story, of course, was terrific. I highly recommend this version.

Historia
In true Dickensian fashion, The Old Curiosity Shop offers a humorous yet devastating depiction of both the most honourable and most corrupt members of 19th-century English society. Hailed by Queen Victoria as being ‘interesting and cleverly written', The Old Curiosity Shop introduces listeners to the uniquely colourful characters of Nell Trent, her young friend, Kit, her doting grandfather and the evil moneylender to whom they all fall prey, Daniel Quilp.

A terrific story by Dickens
Revisado: 03-24-24
A very sad story indeed. However, the narration by Jessie Buckley was one of the best I have ever heard. Each character was voiced so differently. She really has a knack for the drama as well. Her narration of Quilp's part was outstanding. A loathsome character made so very interesting not only by Dickens, of course, but by her amazing characterization. I will be looking for her narration of other audible books.

Historia
Pompey, Caesar, Cicero, Brutus, Antony: the names resonate across thousands of years. Major figures in the civil wars that brutally ended the Roman republic, their lives still haunt us as examples of how the hunger for personal power can overwhelm collective politics, how the exaltation of the military can corrode civilian authority, and how the best intentions can lead to disastrous consequences. Plutarch renders these history-making lives as flesh-and-blood characters.

Plutarch excellence
Revisado: 04-23-21
I have previously read Plutarch's Lives but I wanted to refresh. This collection of lives during the time of Caesar is very good. Plutarch doe not disappoint nor does the narration. It was very enjoyable. Recommended!

Fun read! Murder mystery in Ancient Rome.
Revisado: 02-24-20
Pompey, Caesar, and Co. are brought to life as accurately as can be depicted in a novel. There was nothing detracting from history. John Maddox Roberts knows his history. I really enjoyed this story and all the characters. The main character, Decius, is very appealing without being arrogant. As usual John Lee did a wonderful job reading this mystery taking place in Ancient Rome. All of his voices work! He never makes female characters sound silly as he does not force it. He chose a Liverpool accent for Hermes the slave ---which put me off for a few sentences---but it worked! I have been reading ancient roman history books for most of my life and I felt it was time to read something "fun" still in the same era. I highly recommend this series. I am now off to the next!

Nice finish to the series
Revisado: 05-01-19
Even though this particular murder/mystery was not as interesting as most of the Falco novels--it was a nice tie up and had a fun ending. I have read the entire series with only a few done via audible. The narration by Christian Rodska was excellent! He really reads the parts well with great feeling and one can easily tell each character apart. I prefer his narration over Simon Prebble in this particular series. Christian Rodska was very "into" the parts. You could tell that he was enjoying the read and thus I was enjoying the listen!

Excellent Narration!
Revisado: 05-19-18
I was a bit leery of this lengthy Dickens novel. I have read many Dickens novels long and short but never tackled this one until Audible books. The narration of both Sean Barrett and Teresa Gallagher was terrific. They took turns throughout the story but both of them masters of voice. Each character in the story was distinctive. Both had very pleasing voices.
It is an intriguing story with many characters to get to know and in true Dickensian manner---all fascinating.

Historia
Between his work on the 2014 Audible Audiobook of the Year, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel, and his performance of Classic Love Poems, narrator Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit, Hannibal) has quickly become a listener favorite. Now, in this defining performance of Charles Dickens' classic David Copperfield, Armitage lends his unique voice and interpretation, truly inhabiting each character and bringing real energy to the life of one of Dickens' most famous characters.

Best Voice for Narration of a Wonderful Story
Revisado: 01-08-18
Would you consider the audio edition of David Copperfield [Audible] to be better than the print version?
Well no---hard to surpass viewing the Dickens words as well as the drawings by Phiz--however this narration was a total delight.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters themselves are so very interesting to read develop.
Which scene was your favorite?
The comeuppance of Uriah Heep.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
David's reflections periodically in the book.
Any additional comments?
Richard Armitage's voices for characters is just masterful. Each character has a distinct voice and never affected. The women's voices are done perfectly without sounding high, shrill or fake which is common with some narrators. Richard Armitage is supreme! I love Dickens stories, David Copperfield being my favorite-- so I was a bit leary to hear the narration. I was so pleasantly surprised.
