Historia
On Easter morning, 1972, Marine captain John Ripley braved intense enemy fire to blow up a bridge during the North Vietnamese "Easter Offensive." Ripley became a legend within the Marine Corps for his daring act of heroism. His story is described here by fellow Marine John Grider Miller. Miller lays bare Ripley's innermost thoughts during the 3 hours it took to place and set the fuses while some 30,000 enemy troops and 200 tanks prepared to cross just yards away. Such a compelling act of raw courage and personal resolve is rarely encountered.

Amazing story
Revisado: 06-17-20
Older recording but still incredible to hear the author and LtCol Ripley at the beginning. Amazing story of courage and heroism. Great read, and I recommend Ride The Thunder for the “rest of the story”

Historia
It is the most famous military installation in the world. And it doesn't exist. Located a mere s75 miles outside of Las Vegas in Nevada's desert, the base has never been acknowledged by the US government - but Area 51 has captivated imaginations for decades. Annie Jacobsen had exclusive access to 19 men who served the base proudly and secretly for decades and are now aged 75-92, and unprecedented access to 55 additional military and intelligence personnel, scientists, pilots, and engineers linked to the secret base, 32 of whom lived and worked there for extended periods.

Deceptively good

I was skeptical about the book to start, thinking it was going to be full of conspiracy theories and alien insanity, but instead it was a well written, well thought out narrative that clearly resulted from much research and editing. Highly recommended

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

Amazing story
Revisado: 01-10-20
Told very well as you snap between the groundbreaking invention of the Chicago worlds fair and the macabre serial killer. Audio repeats itself in a couple places but otherwise it is an addicting story that you can’t stop listening to for wanting to know what happens next

Historia
In late June, 2005, media sources recounted the tragic story of 19 US special-operations personnel who died at the hands of insurgent/terrorist leader Ahmad Shah - and the lone survivor of Shah's ambush - deep in the Hindu Kush Mountains of Afghanistan. The harrowing events of Operation Red Wings marked an important - yet widely misreported - chapter in the Global War on Terror, the full details of which the public burned to learn. Victory Point reveals the complete, as-yet untold story of Operation Red Wings and the follow-on mission, Operation Whalers.

This book is a must read. Having spent time in AFG this book brought me back and the way the author painted the scenery, terrain, and events it really transported me there. Great narration and great story. Highly recommend, you won't regret it
