Well paced and intriguing.
Revisado: 09-01-24
In this third installment in the Saffron Everleigh series Khavarhi delivers another excellent installment. The mystery was interesting but I felt the addition of Lee from the previous book was an afterthought. While the book was mostly told through Saffron’s perspective, occasionally we see the world through the eyes of one of the secondary characters. I felt like this was the weakest part of the novel, since the changing pov wasn’t particularly consistent it felt like it was more of a convenient way to get the job done. Overall a fun listen.

Historia
All the creatures of the forest and field and riverbank knew the infant was special. She was the princess, spirited away from the evil fairy, Pernicia, on her name-day. But the curse was cast: Rosie was fated to prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a poisoned sleep - a slumber from which no one would be able to rouse her....

Delightful!
Revisado: 06-20-24
Robin McKinley does not disappoint in this lovely reimagining of the sleeping beauty fairy tale. The main characters are charming and the story is interesting and is well paced. Narrator Justine Eyre does a lovely job with the voices (although I listened at 1.1 speed) and this title is completely appropriate for younger audiences.

Historia
Kristen Petersen doesn't do drama, will fight to the death for her friends, and has no room in her life for guys who just don't get her. She's also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children. Planning her best friend's wedding is bittersweet for Kristen - especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He's funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family.

It’s cute but meant for someone else
Revisado: 06-02-24
I’ve loved other books by this author, but had a hard time with the immaturity of the characters in the beginning. I was also incredibly frustrated by Kristin’s absolute unwillingness to talk to Jacob about her concerns. The twist was incredibly graphic and while I did appreciate how well several difficult subjects were handled I just found myself too often wanting to send all the characters to therapy. It was fine. I’m not upset I read it. But it just wasn’t a hit for me.

Historia
It begins with a dead body at the far end of Baker Street tube station, all that remains of American exchange student James Gallagher - and the victim's wealthy, politically powerful family is understandably eager to get to the bottom of the gruesome murder. The trouble is, the bottom - if it exists at all - is deeper and more unnatural than anyone suspects...except, that is, for London constable and sorcerer's apprentice Peter Grant.

Body and soul. The song. That's what London constable and sorcerer's apprentice Peter Grant first notices when he examines the corpse of Cyrus Wilkins, part-time jazz drummer and full-time accountant, who dropped dead of a heart attack while playing a gig at Soho's 606 Club. The notes of the old jazz standard are rising from the body - a sure sign that something about the man's death was not at all natural but instead supernatural.

Historia
The many lives of theoretical physicist Elsie Hannaway have finally caught up with her. By day, she’s an adjunct professor, toiling away at grading labs and teaching thermodynamics in the hopes of landing tenure. By other day, Elsie makes up for her non-existent paycheck by offering her services as a fake girlfriend, tapping into her expertly honed people-pleasing skills to embody whichever version of herself the client needs. Honestly, it’s a pretty sweet gig—until her carefully constructed Elsie-verse comes crashing down.

Engaging and entertaining!
Revisado: 06-19-23
Ali Hazelwood does a great job of portraying the sometimes brutal world of academia, especially in the STEM fields. Her inclusion of differing lifestyles is refreshing, and the main character is a nice balance of intelligent and a little awkward. While academically gifted she struggles with interpersonal relationships in a very believable way. The author also did a great job of showing what consent looks like in a burgeoning relationship. Overall a fun, quick (and quite steamy) read.
