Historia
They looked like a slightly mischievous version of the all-American couple: a handsome army veteran and his gorgeous artist girlfriend. Zackery Bowen, after completing his tour of Iraq, came home to New Orleans, and in two weeks before Hurricane Katrina, he met Addie Hall. Their improvised, hard-partying endurance during and after the storm inspired news outlets around the world to feature the couple as the personification of the indomitable spirit of New Orleans. But beneath the surface, trouble was brewing.

Wow.
Revisado: 01-23-25
I thought this book was eye opening in so many different topics.
I heard about Zack addy my 1st time to New Orleans about 13 years ago. I think this book was more than what I expected.
I really appreciate this author for being so thorough. It talks a lot about the Iran war and what Zack experienced along with other soldiers.
I understand that that may be a turn off for some but I felt it absolutely necessary. Along with post Katrina politics. Again very important to this story.
I can’t recommend enough.
It made me cry tears of sorrow and frustration. But I’m so glad I got to get a glimpse of what these people were facing. And still facing. It’s an important look at how society shapes us, our cities and our country.

No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents, all of whom are rich or famous or both. These are the only rules for Jules Larsen’s new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan's most high-profile and mysterious buildings. As she gets to know the residents and staff of the Bartholomew, Jules finds herself drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid. When Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew is not what it seems, Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story...until the next day, when Ingrid disappears.

Revisado: 07-30-24
I really enjoyed this book. I started listening to it while in bed lights off thinking I was just going to fall asleep. I got sucked in and then creeped out. lol the narrator wasn’t my favorite but I got use to him. The only thing I didn’t appreciate so much was this weird musical break in between chapters. I just didn’t think it was needed. Almost felt like a cheesy commercial break. But all in all I’d say it was a good book and I will be looking up more from the author. 🤘

The repetition of words feelings and descriptions.
Revisado: 01-03-24
…. I really wanted to get into this story. I finished it but it was really hard. It interested me at the very beginning but then it started to drag, and then I started finding myself getting irritated with the character because they were sooooo difficult to like.
Our main character absolutely does nothing to help herself. She’s so pessimistic it becomes annoying. Again lots of repetitive descriptions and feelings. She tells you why she did something then she tells you a few min later again why she did something and how it feels. Anyway… I found myself not enjoying it but I kept thinking there was going to be some sort of payoff at the end…and there wasn’t. Just more unlikable characters. Especially the guy at the very end…super jerk.
The actual ghost story or lore they used was cool…. I don’t know… this book was no good.

Let’s get Haunted !
Revisado: 12-08-23
So I was looking for a scary book.. I saw this as a recommendation on instagram.
I dig it.
It had me 1st chapter. It is a heart breaking story with a kinda… happy ending.. It went places I didn’t think we would go. I like how things she says comes back around later. There are a couple drags through the story that if it was a film would probably be cut. If that makes any sense. But all in all I enjoyed it and I’ll see what else this author has going on.
Do it! Let’s get HAUNTED!

Historia
Most people want to avoid thinking about death, but Caitlin Doughty - a 20-something with a degree in medieval history and a flair for the macabre - took a job at a crematory, turning morbid curiosity into her life’s work. With an original voice that combines fearless curiosity and mordant wit, Caitlin tells an unusual coming-of-age story full of bizarre encounters, gallows humor, and vivid characters (both living and very dead).

Revisado: 05-12-23
I found Caitlins YouTube channel at the beginning of the pandemic. Watching her channel made me think differently about death and grief. A welcomed change since I had just lost my dad a year prior. I’m grateful for her and her videos now I am going through her books.
I laughed I cried… I thought it was wonderful. It has a good pace and she does a great job with the narration.

Revisado: 03-17-23
The narrator is just all over the place. He insists on doing accents that he can’t keep straight and therefore I can’t keep straight. It’s making the book hard to follow and unenjoyable. Some of the accents are so gruff it makes me dislike some of the characters as well. LoL just read the book!

This book was very informative and entertaining. Really liked the fact checking aspect to it. A few details I was led to believe from TV documentaries were cleared up in this book. I dug it!
