Historia
Thanks to the efforts of Miss Penelope Lumley, their plucky governess, Alexander, Beowulf, and Cassiopeia are much more like children than wolf pups now. They are accustomed to wearing clothes. They hardly ever howl at the moon. And for the most part, they resist the urge to chase squirrels up trees.

Historia
Jamie MacFarlane has returned a hero from the Great War but with a stubborn chest wound. The government has sent him to their new thermal springs hospital in California "where it was hoped that the brilliant sunshine, the fruits, and the clean air, the eternal summer of a beneficent land" would heal him. But nothing has worked, and with his parents now deceased and no one to care for him, it seems the next step is a camp rife with tuberculosis. Realizing this, Jamie begins his great adventure on foot toward the ocean.

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

First time to finish
Revisado: 01-11-23
I’ve picked up this book and paper copy several times to read and have never been able to finish. But this audible version engaged my attention, and I was finally able to read it to completion and will definitely be listening again.

Very encouraging
Revisado: 12-20-22
This book was recommended by a trusted and encouraging friend. I am left with much to ponder and evaluate in my life. Soon I will listen again soon and take time to stop and do the notebook assignments, I think they are necessary to gain the full potential of this message.

My favorite Anne book. The story is near and dear to my heart. Best narrator of the ones I sampled, took a while to get used to her interesting quavering voice, but she read with much feeling. Beautifully done!

Historia
Eight hundred women and children begin a 1,200-mile journey on foot across Japanese-occupied Malaya. At journey’s end, only 30 will still be alive. This is the story of one woman, of her ordeal, and of how she was saved by the sacrifice of an Australian soldier. It is a story of rare individual courage in the face of certain death, and hope in the face of despair.

Engaging
Revisado: 06-02-21
Nevil Chute was recommended by a friend. I first read On The Beach, then started listening to this title on a long road trip with friends. We were all drawn into this story! It is so very well done all around. The characters are knowable. The situations and settings are descriptively and understandably drawn. The narrator does a phenomenal job and really makes this book come alive. Our trip ended with 3 hours of the book left to go so I immediately purchased my own audible copy and will be telling all my friends to listen. Now I’m going to search out my next Nevil Chute read.

Choppy!
Revisado: 03-30-19
I can’t listen to this. After a few minutes my nerves are on edge, the reading is so choppy... reminds me of a record with a scratch. Horrible rhythm in the reading.
