I enjoy that Yahtzee’s books come across on the surface like sort of a slapstick comedy very reminiscent in my mind of Blackadder and Monty Python. However, reading more and more it becomes obvious that while the comedic tone is definitely present, and the books are a lot of fun, there is a great deal, more nuance available under the surface, which I think helps build believable and interesting characters.

The constant poking at classic sci-fi tropes is a great consistent note, and I find I really enjoy when he slips in a much more introspective and thought-provoking question about what it means and it’s affect on other people in the setting. Anytime I find characters becoming self-aware or engaging with the “gray area “that exists between good and bad. I am immediately more drawn characters and the story, and I have to say the extra bit at the end of this book is fantastic.

I'm a fan of Yahtzee's video game review series, so I can here a bit biased. However, I enjoyed the story and performance overall. While the concept isn't exactly new, he comes at it with a very good handle on presenting a character that is realistic and very human (irony of irony). I think he erred a bit too much on the 'not a hero' sort of thing, I think the character could have been just a bit more likeable (not much, but a bit) and it would have helped with relating to him a little more, but overall I felt that he stuck to the idea and the premise and the character, and didn't pander.

While I appreciate the variety of voices Yahtzee is able to product as the narrator, I think the story could have been presented better with a voice actor with more range, or perhaps even multiple people, as some of the fancier audible book titles are doing these days. I think Yahtzee could have promise as a narrator, so perhaps just a bit more practice and some vocal coaching?

Overall, I got a very Terry Pratchett sort of feel from it, and that's high praise. Believable characters with a lot of variety and personality (Mr. Wonderful, for example) and memorable locations (Dreadgrave's castle, the Malevolands) and some great twists along the way.

I also appreciate the different ways the story was presented - some first person, some third person chat, a few emails, even a game review added its on flavor to how the story was told. Overall, a great one to buy and listen to.

Great ending to a great series. This has been an amazing ride, and Gil Eskieth is an anti-hero like no other. Morgan's detailed descriptions and all too human characters paint a story that's touched by human frailties and vulnerabilities as well as enlightenment and ascension. It's those details that make the characters come to life in the narrator's voices, that makes them live and breath and curse, and I think it's an amazing sign of the quality of the characters when you hear yourself guessing what they're going to say in a given situation.

It's a great twist on the superhero genre, and it's really done a great job of humanizing some of these people with God-like powers.

It's written from a slightly juvenile perspective, which I find impressing, because I've read a lot of Brandon Sanderson's stuff, and it's obvious he specifically adopts this style for these books. I don't think it's a drawback, I just put it out as a warning for people that may not like YA.
