One of the best
Revisado: 05-29-20
I stumbled upon Jake Grafton many years ago and have been a fan ever since. I kept seeing America among the Audible “books” but not within my II Barry. Surely I had “read” it. But I ultimately checked my old collections of CD’s and was astounded it was not there either. I bought it and, wonderful to tell, did not recognize a bit of it! It i one of the best of the Grafton books — and that is an excellent oeuvre for any writer.
Now, I hope I can find another bit of serendipity to “read” featuring another favorite character: wouldn’t it be great to stumble upon an unread, but canonical, Poirot or Nero Wolfe or Miss Marple or Sherlock Holmes.

Historia
When Amos Decker and his FBI colleague Alex Jamison are called to London, North Dakota, they instantly sense that the thriving fracking town is ripe for trouble. The promise of a second gold rush has attracted an onslaught of newcomers all hoping for a windfall, and the community is growing faster than houses can be built. The sudden boom has also brought a slew of problems with it, including drugs, property crimes, prostitution—and now murder.

Complicated story; disappointing performance
Revisado: 04-30-20
When I stumbled on the Baldacci books, I was delighted. The Camel Club stories were excellent. However, they have grown more and more complex. This one combines characters from three strains of stories —\for a total of five characters — and they as do most of the other characters are referred to by their firs and last names, interchangeably. It is difficult to know who is who. But the worst part is the use of two voices in telling the story. I can only assume that this is an answer to some sort of misguided effort to achieve politically correct “gender” association with the female characters. It does not work. There is. Difference between read a book — where you will have a line followed lily :’he said” and a script where the different voice is sufficient to indicate that one character has stopped speaking and another is about to speak or the omniscient author is about to make a pronouncement. The time is wrong and the female voices all seem to be modeled on Aunt Bea (apologies to her) on Mayberry RFD.

Great story. A warning to us of what might happen -- of might have happened if the poll numbers last year had not been so wrong.

My first . . . won't be my last!
Revisado: 07-14-16
If you could sum up No Mercy in three words, what would they be?
Plot, characters, excitement
What was one of the most memorable moments of No Mercy?
That would be a spoiler . . . but when a Washington DC makes an unexpected appearance, it's pretty memorable.
What does Jeremy Gage bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Excellent reading, good characterization
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?
Glad I started with No 1. Buying No 2 as soon as I submit this.

Cannot wait for the next book in the trilogy. Long, but worth it. Just like Wagner' operas!!
I will listen again.
