Historia
In The Heartbeat of Trees, renowned forester Peter Wohlleben draws on new scientific discoveries to show how humans are deeply connected to the natural world. In an era of climate change, many of us fear we’ve lost our connection to nature - but Peter Wohlleben is convinced that age-old ties linking humans to the forest remain alive and intact. We just have to know where to look.

Historia
Hardy's first major literary success, here brought to life by narrator Nathaniel Parker, is the story of the independent and spirited Bathsheba Everdene, who inherits her uncle's farm, the largest estate in the area. She surprises the villagers of Weatherbury by deciding to run it herself. Attracted to this bold young woman are three suitors all vying for her affections. They include the lonely gentleman-farmer Boldwood, the young and handsome but inconsiderate Sergeant Troy and the faithful shepherd Gabriel Oak.

An emotional, brilliant journey!
Revisado: 10-23-24
First time reading Hardy in many, many years. I was ripe for the experience, and enjoyed the experience immensely, though there were those inevitable times in any accurate portrayal of life the I wished I hadn’t entered the creation Hardy had created. Nathaniel Parker narrating was superb.

Historia
Like Jan Swafford’s biographies Beethoven and Johannes Brahms, Mozart is the complete exhumation of a genius in his life and ours: A man who would enrich the world with his talent for centuries to come and who would immeasurably shape classical music. As Swafford reveals, it’s nearly impossible to understand classical music’s origins and indeed its evolutions, as well as the Baroque period, without studying the man himself.

Importance of being aware of what the work contains
Revisado: 08-23-24
I was excited as I listened to the words of this towering scientific mind. I felt and thought repeatedly that rather than the concerns of most folks about this and that daily occurrence, the population of the world should be, first and foremost discussing and finding answers for the dilemma, the life threatening dilemma, of what is revealed in this book. Truly a must read for all. RIP Edward O. Wilson, and a belated THANK YOU!

Mary Siisip Geniusz has spent more than thirty years working with, living with, and using the Anishinaabe teachings, recipes, and botanical information, she shares in Plants Have So Much to Give Us, All We Have to Do Is Ask. Geniusz gained much of the knowledge she writes about from her years as an oshkaabewis, a traditionally trained apprentice, and as friend to the late Keewaydinoquay, an Anishinaabe medicine woman from the Leelanau Peninsula in Michigan and a scholar, teacher, and practitioner in the field of native ethnobotany.

Robin has quickly become a favorite with me, and I may enjoy her reading more than any other. I still would be hard pressed to say that I learned any scientific knowledge of moss after reading this, but the vast abundance of peripheral information was fascinating to hear about and told in a most compelling way.
If you are a nature lover and unfamiliar with Robin, read, or better still, listen to her read any of her books that are available. Everything she writes is a must read!!!

Historia
In 2016, Amy Tan grew overwhelmed by the state of the world: Hatred and misinformation became a daily presence on social media, and the country felt more divisive than ever. In search of peace, Tan turned toward the natural world just beyond her window and, specifically, the birds visiting her yard. But what began as an attempt to find solace turned into something far greater—an opportunity to savor quiet moments during a volatile time, connect to nature in a meaningful way, and imagine the intricate lives of the birds she admired.

Author’s love and fascination with the bird world and her fellow creatures
Revisado: 06-28-24
I enjoyed and like the side stories about the author’s joys, frustrations and emanating from her ever increasing closeness to the natural world.
I would have like more mention about the role backyard plantings played in the attraction of the birds she saw, but instead, she seemed entirely focused upon her carting in food for feeders, never acknowledging that the insect world attracted by the oaks and other plantings around her home and the role those insects played in the presence and health of “her” entourage of bird visitors.

As a botanist and professor of plant ecology, Robin Wall Kimmerer has spent a career learning how to ask questions of nature using the tools of science. As a Potawatomi woman, she learned from elders, family, and history that the Potawatomi, as well as a majority of other cultures indigenous to this land, consider plants and animals to be our oldest teachers.
