This is such an enjoyable series! I really like the characters & get invested in their lives. I’m looking forward to the next book!
The narrator is excellent & makes it easy to distinguish between the characters.
I highly recommend this series! Thank you, Joy, for this series! Btw, I think you’ve got a really nice first name! ;) 😁

Great historical mystery!
Revisado: 04-18-18
I enjoy this series! I like how developed the characters are & how Sebastian & Hero interact with others & have become like friends through these excellent mysteries that take place in a fascinating era. I love that so many things really happened.
Davina Porter is such an enchanting narrator; she’s in my top 5. I can even hear when she’s smiling. She’s versatile & can do accents quite well.
I would recommend this series to anyone who loves mysteries with some romance thrown in. I’m always excited when the newest Sebastian St. Cyr is available. Enjoy!

I’m trying but it’s a chore
Revisado: 02-22-18
I’m nearly 12 hrs into this book, but I don’t really care about the characters. I keep thinking it’ll start coming together but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to. Perhaps there are too many points of view?
I’m seriously thinking about asking for an exchange. Even though there are some good narrators, the stories are just too drawn-out. I’m just not interested.

Since I had to help my beloved Rosi Grace cross the Rainbow Bridge in March (2017), I was so encouraged by this book.
It was too short & the narrator read just a bit too fast, but I would recommend this to anyone who has lost or is going to lose a pet.
I simply can't believe that Rosi, who was the most loving, caring, & compassionate dog I've ever met (a rescue & the dog love of my life!) wouldn't spend eternity with me. I could see God's love & grace so clearly through her! Even though I still miss her, I'm deeply thankful for my 3+ years with her. I know she was a direct gift from God.
This book was so helpful; I would've loved to hear more! I liked learning more about St. Francis of Assisi. Recommend!

Scotland Yard puzzles me in this book
Revisado: 12-01-16
What disappointed you about A Bespoke Murder?
First I'll say that I haven't finished this yet & am trying to work up the interest to do so. I don't like not finishing a book.
I find it hard to believe how much the police tell possible suspects about crimes, all the details they give away. Why aren't they more careful? I also haven't warmed to the characters. Inspector Marmion guarantees he'll solve the murder & bring everyone to justice. Not realistic. I'm also disappointed by author's depiction of Jews. Jacob Stein's family seem cruel to his daughter. Is the author prejudiced against religions & portraying them incorrectly?
Has A Bespoke Murder turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, of course not. But I much prefer Charles Todd's Inspector Rutledge, who gives nothing away. Those mysteries happen just after WWI.
Did Gordon Griffin do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Sometimes. But I'm not sure who's speaking about half the time, especially between the inspector & his sergeant.
What character would you cut from A Bespoke Murder?
The people from the Lusitania. That subplot isn't interesting & seems so far to have nothing to do with main plot.
Any additional comments?
Why would the British refer to "soccer"? They've always called it "football." Was that just for Americans who aren't too bright? Tiny thing, I know, but it bugged me. A few other things seemed off to me; some things seem more 21st century than early 20th. I don't like giving a bad review, but I won't read any more Marston.

The book was OK. I have 2nd in series & will read that too. I don't know if I'll continue the series after that. The narrator was fairly good. Actually, I'd give it 3.5 stars in each category if I could. It was a quick listen.

Revisado: 05-18-16
This was a memorable book & the 3 stories were very interesting & well-written. Don't be tempted to read the author's note at the end of the book first. Spoilers! I'm glad the author included it. I wanted to know more about actual events. I'm inspired to read more about the "rabbits."
The book seemed to drag a few times, but that's probably because I wanted things to happen that didn't. The book is long, but I don't think it needed editing (& I'm a former proofreader/copy editor).
Each narrator was excellent! I would be surprised if anyone dislikes the narrators. Even when each does other accents, I didn't find it jarring or dissonant.
There are a few places where it's quite sad & grim. But that's part of the book's purpose; it's about the Holocaust, after all.
Overall, an interesting, moving book from a new author. I'll be watching for her next book!

Way too s-l-o-w... I gave up.
Revisado: 04-07-16
Would you try another book from Kate Williams and/or Fiona Hardingham?
Kate Williams: No. Fiona Hardingham: Maybe, depending on story.
Has The Storms of War turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, not at all. I enjoy historical novels.
What does Fiona Hardingham bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She did try to do different voices & it's OK.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. It's a long book & I kept waiting & waiting for something to happen. I gave it 9 hours but I gave up--main character Celia was STILL whiny & still had not done much.. I didn't even like her--or her bratty sister. Michael was only character worth the time, but I can't endure anymore.
Any additional comments?
I don't like giving a negative review, but this badly needed an editor who could've saved us all a lot of time. I was so tired of Celia's whining & being completely clueless that I have NO desire to spend 9 more hours on her. Maybe it's just me; I don't know. I wish I had that credit back!

Won't buy this author again--foul language.
Revisado: 02-11-15
Would you try another book from Kay Brellend and/or Annie Aldington?
Not from Kay Brelland. Annie is a fairly good narrator. Would listen to her again.
What was most disappointing about Kay Brellend’s story?
All the F-bombs & other bad language. Also didn't like the disgusting situations.
Did Annie Aldington do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Fairly decent at it.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from East End Angel?
All the nasty language. Also would tone down the cheating &lying. Gets depressing.Wife beatings too.
Any additional comments?
I'm not sure if I'll finish it. Will probably ask for my money back. Much prefer Ellie Dean & Donna Douglas.
