Historia
Officer Ren Hopper is an enforcement ranger with the National Park Service, tasked with duties both mundane and thrilling: Breaking up fights at campgrounds, saving clueless tourists from moose attacks, and attempting to broker an uneasy peace between the wealthy vacationers who tromp through the park with cameras, and the residents of hardscrabble Cooke City who want to carve out a meaningful living. When Ren, hiking through the backcountry on his day off, encounters a tall man with a dog and a gun chasing a small black bear up a hill, his hackles are raised.

Burt Reynolds gives a great read
Revisado: 05-19-21
Mr. Reynolds creates characters that are nearly as I imagined them to be. His character delineation and the life he brings to each one is superb.
The story, itself, is classic Spencer.

Historia
Ordered to hold an abandoned army post, John Dunbar found himself alone, beyond the edge of civilization. Thievery and survival soon forced him into the Indian camp, where he began a dangerous adventure that changed his life forever. Set in 1863, the novel follows Lieutenant John Dunbar on a magical journey from the ravages of the Civil War to the far reaches of the imperiled American frontier, a frontier he naively wants to see "before it is gone".

makes a good listen even if you have seen the movie.
Revisado: 09-11-20
I came to this book having already been a great fan of the movie.
I was surprised at how faithfully the movie did track the book, although I found a bunch of additional richness by hearing the entire unabridged piece.
Of course, George Guidall is the perfect narrator.

Historia
A prolific journalist, Martin Walker has crafted a mystery series that deftly blends the stylings of Peter Mayle and Alexander McCall Smith. Chief Bruno Courreges loves life in his small French village. One day his idyll is disturbed when a local research station for genetically modified crops is burned down. An enclave of environmentalists seems to be the most likely culprit, but soon Bruno uncovers evidence that makes the case infinitely more complicated.

Revealed - why french wines have a unique flavor.
Revisado: 11-04-17
Here are the further adventures of Bruno - Chief of Police. The series becomes even more addictive with this who-done-it tale interspersed with charming South-of-France descriptions. Walker reveals his characters little-by-little with engaging glimpses of their inner-life. Especially fun — no part of an investigation is complete without an incredible meal the Chief just effortlessly whips-up and serves with his own wine.
Oh! About the unique flavor? You'll have to listen to find out what they do in those grape-pressing vats.
Overall, a very well-done performance of a skillfully-crafted piece of writing.

When Lane Coolman's car is bashed from behind on the road to the Florida Keys, what appears to be an ordinary accident is anything but (this is Hiaasen!). Behind the wheel of the other car is Merry Mansfield - the eponymous Razor Girl - and the crash scam is only the beginning of events that spiral crazily out of control while unleashing some of the wildest characters Hiaasen has ever set loose.

A rollicking ride amid the crazies of South Florida. This is certainly a match for some of his early works. I consumed it with binge listening.

Historia
Five foreigners have died in Bangkok. Were they drugging overdose victims? Or victims of a serial killer? Calvino believes the evidence points to a serial killer who stalks tourists in Bangkok. The Thai police, including Colonel Pratt, don't buy his theory. Calvino teams up with an LAPD officer on a bodyguard assignment. Hidden forces pull them through swank shopping malls, rundown hotels, Klong Toey slum, and bars in the red light district as they try to keep their man and themselves alive. Maybe it gets better after awhile - I bailed
Revisado: 03-11-13
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No, there are so many better examples of the genre. I stopped the book after the first couple of chapters. It's not "bad" exactly. It's more like "meh".
What three words best describe Dan Russell’s performance?
Dan Russell did an adequate job as narrator. It's just the book itself that couldn't hold my interest.

Historia
This, the first in the splendid series of Jack Aubrey novels, establishes the friendship between Captain Aubrey, Royal Navy, and Stephen Maturin, ship's surgeon and intelligence agent, against the thrilling backdrop of the Napoleonic wars. Details of life aboard a man-of-war in Nelson's navy are faultlessly rendered: the conversational idiom of the officers in the ward room and the men on the lower deck, the food, the floggings, the mysteries of the wind and the rigging, and the road of broadsides as the great ships close in battle.

Make note of your narrator
Revisado: 09-05-10
Patrick Tull and Simon Vance are both gifted narrators. However, when you start with one you may find it a jarring change when you start listening to the other. Each brings their own life to the characters, but it is a very different life. My own personal preference are the characters created by Mr. Tull, but Mr. Vance's acting is no less compelling, only different. If you care about such things, don't make the mistake that I made, buying the edition without first checking by whom it is narrated.

Historia
At the opening of his third novel in an ongoing adventure series by Patrick O'Brian, Jack Aubrey is cruising off Cape Sicie when his friend Stephen Maturin (more serenely situated in Sussex) is informed of the Board's decision regarding Aubrey's prize money, taken after victorious engagement with a Spanish squadron at Cape Santa Maria. The money, five million pieces of eight, is not, as is the custom of war, to be divided among the crews of the four victorious vessels.
