Historia
The sensuous and the sublime, the ordinary and the divine - on the Tantric path, all qualities merge as one in the ecstasy and wonder of awakening. Doorways to the Infinite invites us to directly experience the core practices and insights of Tantra from its original source: Kashmir Shaivism's Vijnana Bhairava. This dialogue between the deity Shiva and his consort Devi unfolds the secrets for moment-to-moment awakening into inner freedom and open-eyed ecstasy. Now, Sally Kempton unpacks the hidden truths of this text, revealing it as a treasury of powerful pathways to direct revelation.

Wow. Exquisite teaching on the Vijnana Bhairava
Revisado: 04-27-19
If you're looking for a work to bring tantra meditation into your life, you can't beat Sally Kempton's Doorways to the Infinite. I love it so much, I wish she had a paperback version. And I wish Kempton put out a complete translation of the entire text (Vijnana Bhairava). Right now i know of only one other treatment of this text, by Lorin Roche, called The Radiance Sutras. You can use Roche's book as a companion to Kempton's recording, as she refers to specific sutras by number, and Roche actualy provides a written text on these sutras.
Kempton has practiced yoga and meditation for 4 decades, and at least 2 of those with a guru. She is familiar with many Eastern yoga traditions, but tantra is her home. I had read Awakening Shakti, and loved learning about the Goddesses. The meditations were also very helpful. Here, in Doorways to the infinite, we finally have a clear explanation of the Bhairava and how it fits in vis-a-vis classical yoga (Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, for example). Finally I have found yogic practices that help me know what to do with emotions! As a long time yoga practitioner and teacher myself, I was never given guidance that helped me navigate difficult emotions--but here you have meditative techniques that give you permission to feel, and an opportunity to "transmute" the emotion to pure Shakti. I can't say enough about the importance of this work.
Seondly, Kempton is a master with the Sanskrit and English and she speaks fluidly over the audible recording. It's a lecture but not a reading. Her voice is measured, dynamic, soothing, and it hits you. She knows from experience about what she speaks and this is conveyed through her excellent elocution.
Third, Kempton puts the teachings of the Bhairava in the context of current teachings in psychology and self help. She is familiar with the works of Byron Katie, Eckhardt Tolle, and Liz Gilbert and others and Doorways bridges the gap between popular new age self help and Eastern mysticism.

Historia
Haunted by the freak accident that killed their father when they were children, Jim and Bob Burgess escaped from their Maine hometown of Shirley Falls for New York City as soon as they possibly could. Jim, a sleek, successful corporate lawyer, has belittled his bighearted brother their whole lives, and Bob, a Legal Aid attorney who idolizes Jim, has always taken it in stride. But their long-standing dynamic is upended when their sister, Susan - the Burgess sibling who stayed behind - urgently calls them home.

Another Fabulous Book by Strout
Revisado: 11-11-18
Just finished this book by ES and now I look for more by her. The stories are about what Strou knows so well—family life and all the complexities of sorrow among siblings, between married couples, and here, across cultures. Strout does a beautiful job displaying a conflict between traditional Mainers and the new Somali immigrants.
I happened to be listening to this book at the same time I was watching Clancy’s Jack Ryan on Amazon prime. Both authors do a great job of portraying conflict from both sides.
The narrator of this audiobook is talented and made all the characters come alive. Thank you Cassandra Campbell for a great reading.
