Historia
James A. Garfield may have been the most extraordinary man ever elected president. Born into abject poverty, he rose to become a wunderkind scholar, a Civil War hero, and a renowned and admired reformist congressman. Nominated for president against his will, he engaged in a fierce battle with the corrupt political establishment. But four months after his inauguration, a deranged office seeker tracked Garfield down and shot him in the back. But the shot didn’t kill Garfield. The drama of what happened subsequently is a powerful story of a nation in turmoil.

excellent insight into a presidential assasination
Revisado: 07-14-19
Candice Millard is able to bring to life the assassin of James Garfield. You begin to see the subtle mistakes the killer makes. As he becomes more and more psychotic you see the bullet coming. The book goes in in much detail the death of Garfield and the heroic attempts to save him. It is very pertinent and worth your attention.

Historia
This novel spans the period between the Chicago World's Fair of 1893 and the years just after World War I. With a worldwide disaster looming just a few years ahead, it is a time of unrestrained corporate greed, false religiosity, moronic fecklessness, and evil intent in high places. No reference to the present day is intended or should be inferred.

Historia
It is said that the practice of dream yoga deepens our awareness during all our experience: the dreams of the night; the dream-like experience of the day; and the bardo experiences after death. Indeed, the practice of dream yoga is a powerful tool of awakening, used for hundreds of years by the great masters of the Tibetan traditions. Unlike in the Western psychological approach to dreams, the ultimate goal of Tibetan dream yoga is the recognition of the nature of mind or enlightenment itself.

Excellent book on using sleep to meditate
Revisado: 07-12-19
A clear and lucid dissertation of active dreaming, controlling your dreams and using your sleeping phase of your life to center yourself. Practices that are well known today and practiced by sleep specialists like myself. Yet this book shows how old these techniques are and how many people have used this form of meditation to help them grow old without the pain, fear and anger that makes old age so difficult. A wonderful book that you will learn much from.

Revisado: 06-28-19
Remember the immortal words of Eddie Lawrence, "Is that what is bothering you Bunky?" He would go on and on about how horrible your life has been and then go into a chorus line. This book is not as shallow but the extent of the dirt this book digs up on President Trump is amazing An excellent read.

Historia
Impeachment is a double-edged sword. Though it was designed to check tyrants, Thomas Jefferson also called impeachment “the most formidable weapon for the purpose of a dominant faction that was ever contrived”. On the one hand, it nullifies the will of voters, the basic foundation of all representative democracies. On the other, its absence from the Constitution would leave the country vulnerable to despotic leadership.

Impeachment versis, "Your Fired!"
Revisado: 06-28-19
Here is a clear and concise history of impeachment and the things presidents did to get there. It makes clear that impeachment does not mean removal from office. Oddly enough the president that came close to losing his job had a very similar M.O. as president Trump. Many have commented on Andrew Jackson's career parallels. This book is very educational and entertaining.

Lord Byron: The Life and Legacy of the Most Famous Romantic Poet

Historia
Lord Byron’s very name conjures up visions of the Romantic movement and outlandishly dressed bohemians, for if Alfred, Lord Tennyson was the poetic darling of the masses, Byron was the hero of the hedonists. While the traditional English literary hero was a nobleman rescuing a damsel in distress, Byron created the antihero, a man plagued by self-doubt and hidden sorrow. At the same time, his hero was also capable of facing reality once he had wrestled through his own angst, and even of occasionally acting nobly in the great tradition of the author’s Puritan forebears.

Too Gifted to Ignore Too Devilish To Speak Of
Revisado: 06-25-19
Lord Byron is one of the best English poets but so ridden with scandal that his short life ended with a sigh of relief by Victorian society. Charles River is an excellent editor setting Byron's works in a setting that enhances quotes from him. Fans of Byron will enjoy this book and people just getting a taste of this poetic genus will be surprised.

Polybius wrote his Histories "to find out by what means and by what political system the entire world was brought under the domination of Rome." Within the short space of about 50 years Rome went from being a provincial leader of an Italian confederacy to become the Mistress of the Mediterranean. Polybius was one of the first historians to attempt to present history as a sequence of causes and effects, based upon a careful examination of tradition and a keen scrutiny of the facts.

Makes Early Roman History Come Alive
Revisado: 06-25-19
I am a great fan of early Roman historians. Finding one I hadn't heard of is always a thrill. Polybius emphasizes more of the military aspects as the warring tribes that inhabited Italy coalesced into a unified crucible of the Roman Empire, I'm onto the second volume and enjoying this fresh perspective on an ancient empire,
