Yule is a time to celebrate the rebirth of the light, but for Preternatural Private Investigator and Paranormal Huntress Kassandra Lyall, it's about solving yet another series of crimes. When a couple disappears from their quiet neighborhood home, Detective Arthur Kingfisher brings Kassandra in on the case. In the midst of aiding the police, Kassandra finally finds herself at serious odds with Sheila Morris, the local werewolf pack's Alpha female, when Sheila decides to abuse someone very dear to Kassandra.

60% Porn
Revisado: 05-24-24
This book is very obviously catering to a different audience than me. At least half of the word count is talking about sex or someone convincing another to have sex.
The remainder of the book revolves around a mystery that really couldn't be solved with the clues at hand, so the protagonist naturally turns to the supernatural for help. When she does, the book quickly mentions how "power" is needed for this and that and how it'll be necessary to move forward.
What is this "power" that is constantly brought up? Put simply, it's an excuse to have sex with someone. This unfortunately means that gaining power through sex supplants most of the character growth you'd expect. Why everyone else is swapping power and why the protagonist can't get it any other way (while everyone else seems to, even unintentionally) is not considered.
Ultimately, the fact that nobody in the story has an ounce of restraint and that wanton promiscuity is the objective of every interaction, overshadows the actual plot of this story.

Potential held back by foolish protagonist
Revisado: 01-04-23
There are several good things to say about this book, such as a detailed setting, interesting side characters, and nefarious antagonists. Despite the parts of the book I liked, there's no way that I could write a review without pointing out the extremely frustrating idiot plot that pervades every scene featuring any Oren-Yaro characters, including the protagonist, Queen Talyien.
In this book, the author goes on at length about how the Oren-Yaro tribe values honor. Yet, every single chapter has one or more people from the tribe doubting their allies' intentions and setting off alone, to their great detriment. After repeating this several times, Talyien finally decides to stop turning her back on her allies. This would be a good thing, except that the Oren-Yaro characters then insist on picking fights with their ever-forgiving allies rather than showing a single ounce of trust.
Frankly, their petty, childish behavior makes we think that: in fact, no, Talyien doesn't deserve to be queen, no one from the Oren-Yaro tribe does. I don't know if I'll read the second book, but if I do, I really hope that Talyien and her tribesmen mature into functional adults.

Harry has faced terrible odds before. He has a long history of fighting enemies above his weight class. But this time it’s different. A being more powerful and dangerous on an order of magnitude beyond what the world has seen in a millennium is coming. And she’s bringing an army. The Last Titan has declared war on the city of Chicago and has come to subjugate humanity, obliterating any who stand in her way. Harry’s mission is simple but impossible: Save the city by killing a Titan.

Changes, Part 2 - 'nuff said.

I hope you didn't grow too attached to any of those characters you've come to know over the last dozen books, because everyone dies eventually.
Also, Mab's arrangement at the end was the cherry on top.

Historia
Kim could tell at a glance Angel wasn't the average attractive yet poorly disguised extraterrestrial scout sent to assess Earth's defenses before the inevitable alien invasion. Angel's memory loss cover story? Lame. Robbing a passing ruffian of his shirt to cover her naked body? NOT a good way to avoid attracting attention! As a science fiction geek, Kim felt herself uniquely qualified to watch Angel and thwart her dark mission...once the alien got around to it.

Good idea, very poorly written story

More comedy than romance.
Revisado: 03-17-20
Kim's zaniness makes this book pretty funny. Add to this Angel's preference for going with the flow rather than actually asking questions, and you get quite the comedic duo. Suspend any expectations of common sense or traditional romance and this book can be quite enjoyable.
