Another great book from K Brooks!
Revisado: 02-11-25
Great story. Brooks can fashion a strong, and believable heroine in her books. Set in the 1500s she really paints a picture of what life was like. The narration was utterly perfect.

1703. The wild east coast of Scotland. Returning to her home town of Pittenweem, fishwife and widow Sorcha McIntyre knows she faces both censure and mistrust. After all, this is a country where myth and legend are woven into the fabric of the everyday, a time when those who defy custom like Sorcha are called to account. It is dangerous to be a clever woman who 'doesn't know her place' in Pittenweem - a town rife with superstition. So, when a young local falls victim to witchcraft, the Reverend Cowper and the townsfolk know who to blame.

Great historical fiction.
Revisado: 08-30-24
An important story about the witches of Scotland in the early 1700s. This story is entirely based on facts that the author collected. Demonstrates how religious fervor can pervert the minds of people. The narrator was stupendous. Kept me listening to the very end. I appreciated the epilogue and the authors notes at the end as well. Do note that there are some scenes of torture that are Graphic.

I learned so much about the Mormon migration and the resistance to their way of life. I did not find out until the end of the book that these were actual people and they are related to the author. Fantastic narration, and excellent story.

Historia
Florence, the 1550s. Lucrezia, third daughter of the grand duke, is comfortable with her obscure place in the palazzo: free to wonder at its treasures, observe its clandestine workings, and to devote herself to her own artistic pursuits. But when her older sister dies on the eve of her wedding, Lucrezia is thrust into the limelight: the duke is quick to request her hand in marriage, and her father just as quick to accept on her behalf. Having barely left girlhood behind, Lucrezia must make her way in a court whose customs are opaque and where her arrival is not universally welcomed.

Well told historical tale
Revisado: 02-08-24
The story took place in two times separated by 100 years. There is much historical accuracy and much flushing out of the story of the building in New York called the Dakota and the Camden family.
Really well constructed and held my attention throughout

Revisado: 01-15-24
While the story started out, being interesting, and the narration was good, I feel like I was drawn in, and did not anticipate that this was a Christian story. Because of that creeping up unexpected I did not even finish reading this book.

A story about family, secrets, truth, and love. Set in Bombay, this story focuses on relationships and misunderstandings between people. The truth makes everything clear, but it is not always told in time.
The narration is absolutely perfect, and enhances the story.
