Disappointing narrator and opening

Enjoyed the first two audiobooks in the series with a different narrator who made Hornblower feel decisive. Between the new narrator and the marriage plotline, this one opens more like a tiresome young romance novel. Not sure I'll pursue the series further unless they get past all this quickly and the narrator settles onto a better tack.

Weak story, unfortunate use of Vader

The unimpressed reviews proved accurate. The narration was decent, though Anakin sounds like an angry surfer rather than a general. The story seems to set the stage for the next book, but it felt thin otherwise. Too much was based on interaction between Thrawn and Vader, and echoed the myriad buddy cop movies where dissimilar partners come to respect each other after they're forced to pair up. Vader also comes off as insecure and petulant rather than collected, powerful, and ruthless. I listened to the end, but it definitely wasn't a compelling experience.

Great story. Vibrant acting. Hyperventilation.

The story is excellent and thoroughly worthwhile. The cast also gives a compelling and vibrant performance. The only drawback was their use of hyperventilation and sniveling to convey fear. I quickly hoped that those characters would pass out so they'd stop, but perhaps that just proves how well the cast brought them to life. Quite good overall.

Uninspiring but acceptable because it's short.

The author outlines several ideas worth consideration, but the chapter descriptions listed the key take-aways. The full content didn't add much, and the author's plugs for his website and services were tiresome, even when meant to provide easy access to referenced material like specific TED talks. Hopefully, others will benefit more.

Good stories that need better voices

It's tough to present a story that's recently been told by iconic actors, but that makes it even more important to ensure that the characters have distinct voices. Not bad, though.

The story is well written and the narrator does a great job of rendering the characters distinctly. Unfortunately, the narrator stays far too amped up during the non-dialog segments. I assume his intent was to convey energy but it just pushed me out of the story instead. (Like music without the benefit of offsetting silences.)

Clear, concise, and surprisingly conversational.
