Historia
Even when finding oneself engaged in interstellar war, good form must be observed. Our story is set thousands of years after the Terran Exodus, where two powerful, planet-dominating families - the elegant House Jakabitus and the less refined Hahn Empire - have reached a critical point in their generations-long war. Master Hennik, the Hahn ruler's only son, has been captured, and the disposition of his internment may represent a last and welcome chance for peace.

This novel has a very large cast, that takes place in the far future on a planet and culture very different from our own. I'm not going to lie to you if it wasn't for the trusted combination of scott and luke I would have tapped out. I'm glad I didn't because once I got to know and like the characters and the plot started moving I really began enjoying myself. I'm not going to say it's equal to their other collaborations but it's still worth your time and money.

Historia
The time has finally come for Sophia to enact her vengeance against one Julian Jackson Blackwell. The name of the book is Villains Defeat, after all, and it is a story of team building, betrayal, plots-within-plots, and a how-to guide for toppling an empire. So, yeah, we’re kind of riffing on “the heist” genre in this one.

After hearing Jackson's opinions on 5 paragraph reviews I am having performance issues. Which is actually one of the themes throughout the book which proves I listened to it, I loved it and I think you'll love it too. As with all Jackson past books you need to take it seriously when it's serious and laugh when you're supposed to laugh. If not the book will piss you like it did with me in book 1. As long as you're the type of person that can literally roll with the punches You will love this book as much as I do.

My Review
Revisado: 05-20-22
Daughter of Cyber Dragons is Psycho Pass only Sybil is just another bitch out for herself. Ct Phipps described it as what he wanted Cyberpunk 2077 to be like when he played it. That probably a better starting point for this review. Imagine LA become night city and the main plot is take down a programmer who has figured out to hack anyone mind and turn him or her into a terrorist.
Unlike Cyberpunk 2077 solo story we have a main party. Kei is the cyborg assassin turned courier looking for redemption. Case if the formerly Agent G a robot James Bond who we followed for three novels as this story is a spinoff from his last book. There is Lucheta a cyborg that was Case’s… it’s a long story but she would be the villain of the story if not for her attachment to case. There is Paradise a genius hacker pretending to be a dumb blonde that a former prostitute from the sin city part of town where the ladies of the night ruthlessly run the section of town. Finally there is Detective Miles a cop whose story is interwoven with everyone else that once unravavled makes up the entire plot of the novel. Now add Charles and Michael trade mark blend of action, comedy, drama and snark and you got your story.
That the review I just want to add enjoy Snake as he steals every scene he is in. Picture a Weebo becoming a head of the gang and living out all of his comic book and video game fantasies. I’m not doing him justice but I really loved this character and book.

My Review
Revisado: 05-11-22
If you really like CT Phips sense of humor, stop reading this and buy it. This is his version of Star Trek but as a adult ranchy sitcom so I was laughing throughout the whole story. I strongly advise not to read the rest of this review because there will be light spoilers and knowing the punchline can ruin a good joke.
This series is a prequel to Lucifer Star books. The lore the same but the genre is different. Think Final Fantasy 12 versus Final Fantasy Tactics both take place on Ivalace but the story we got enjoy first was in a post appoclypitc setting (Tactics) while the second story takes place 1000 years earlier during a golden age of technology (Final Fantasy 12) that would appear as magic to characters in the first book.
For Lucifer Star the series CT was channeling, for me, anyway, Mass Effect and the story was serious as that game series. This story is a Sitcom version of Star Trek. Humans belong to a federation of sorts and our technology is on par with most of space faring races except for a couple godlike ones just like Star Trek.
I like to keep spoilers light so imagine an Adult raunchy version of Star Trek starring Wesley Crusher after getting thrown out of Star Fleet due to a training accident but Mirror Universe version of Commander Riker conscripts him into a mission to save the federation by being his second in-command and if successful he gets to keep his rank and second chance. That actually pretty accurate but this is one of the novels/comics that star the X-men so mutants are thrown in there too.
Bottom line is I really loved this book and I think you too if you have ever laughed at CT books. Given his timing I’m honestly interested in Jeffery Kafer doing a stand up special that how funny this story is. And let’s be honest Audible is risk free with their return policy so you have nothing to lose by trying this.

My review
Revisado: 10-02-21
I really enjoyed the writing and narration of this book. While I prefer the characters from the first two novels you can tell that the writer has gotten much better with experience because the characters here are more fleshed-out in real. I would actually recommend reading or listening to the first two novels first because the characters are for lack of a better term more exciting but you really can't go wrong with this book it's really good. I'm not saying the characters here are a problem, far from it but the lead a factory worker not a ex cop turned investigator turned vigilante so it hits different but still hits.
Update: Having read listen to the books I just want to say I changed my mind about reading this book first. a certain character who escaped Justice reappears in this novel in glorious fashion. if you start the series here you might be disappointed for a first read of the second novel which I really loved by the way it's just been a couple of years since I listen to it.

It’s been three months since Stark stopped a death cult and a potential ghost apocalypse, and he’s at loose ends. His personal life is a mess. His professional life isn’t much better. LA is gripped by a viral epidemic. But what’s even more frightening is the Shoggot gang and their leader, King Bullet, who revels in the city’s collapse. Who is King Bullet? No one knows. He seemingly came from nowhere with nothing but a taste for mayhem and an army of crazed killers who follow his every command.

My Review
Revisado: 09-29-21
If you are reading this review because you are wondering if King Bullet is worth your time and money let me stop you right now and say that it is. The writing as always is amazing and is paired nicely with Macleod Andew’s narration. Since this is the last book in the series my review is going to be for the series a whole more and will probably be negative but I really did enjoy the book. If this is why you are reading my review you can stop right now with me adding to take the warning at the beginning of the book seriously. This isn’t like erotic fantasy where the warning meant to sell books this is by far the darkest Sandman Slim novel ever, we went from Urban Fantasy to full on horror. Not for the squimesh. Had this been the first rather than the last novel I would have tapped out and said never again.
All of the Sandman Slim novels are excellent as stand alone novels but if there was a planned outline for how the series to go Kadrey clearly kept ditching it for soft reboots which is frustrating especially if you listened to all the books in the span of a month like I just did. We getting into light spoilers now but Hollywood Dead that was clearly meant to set up a new trilogy status quo was abandoned like how Rise of Skywalker dropped everything that came in the first two movies to tell a brand new self-contained story. Wells and his crew weren’t even mentioned in the final book. I don’t want to ruin Hollywood Dead, I loved that novel but if you listened to it and the fact that Wells and his people weren’t mentioned again after that it’s mindblowing it really is. Going back to Star Wars just imagine Palpatine, Vader and the Empire were never heard from again after A New Hope and you get idea. Now imagine if Luke agreed joined the dark side and you have King Bullet. If you take the narration from Stark in this and put it in Ayelita’s mouth it would fit perfectly about how he sees himself it really depressing.
This is getting far more negative than I wanted but I loved King Bullet as a stand alone novel but the other thing that drove me nuts is that Kadrey forgot a lot of what came before. Spoiler warning but Stark explained what Autophasia is in Kill the Dead but didn’t know it here. Candy met Mr. Munion. The leader of the Dark Eternal is Tico with major unfinished business with Stark with the vampire faction against him if all that changed it should have been explained. For fans of how lore works I’m not even sure if Stark finished the job so to speak at the end there.
I want to end on a positive note. This is a well written narrated and satisfying conclusion to a stand alone Sandman Slim novel. As long as you come in with no expectations or this is your only Sandman Slim book you are going to have a very good time. If you missed the last few books you will still be fine with only the Dark Eternal bit throwing you. It’s only series veterns, especially those who expecting books 11 and 12 to follow book 11 that are going to be mad.
Still in the end this series was an impressive accomplishment. I loved all 12 books, the short story was great and am a Kadrey fan for life. It was an honor and privilege to listen to each book as it came out and I can’t wait to see what Kadrey does next.

As the battle between warring angels continues, James Stark is focused on seemingly simpler matters now that he's resurfaced on earth: an invasion of ghosts. L.A.'s Little Cairo neighborhood has suddenly been overrun by violent spirits, and Thomas Abbott knows if anyone can figure out why they've appeared—and how to get rid of them—it's Stark. Armed with the Room of Thirteen Doors, Stark quickly learns that the answer may reach back to the 1970s and the unsolved murder of small-time actor, Chris Stein.

My Review
Revisado: 09-27-21
This novel was yet another soft reboot. The whole setting and core cast has been changed again. On its own merits it excellently written and narrated but my problem is that it ignores the last novel. We got new villains and a new love interest which work very well but the old villain his holy jihad backed by a magic mercenary army with government connections about to make his big move been forgotten and set to the side. based on the history of this titles reboots he might show up too quickly die by yet another new villan. each individual novel in this series is utterly amazing but the overarching story for me has been problematic.
I'm re-reading my review is coming across as much more negative than I intended it for it to be. This book and the series is truly special and I love every book on its own. the writing and voice acting for this novel is amazing and the Mystery for that's what it is is really good. you get all of the clues to solve everything Kudos if you did it I did not until I got to the end. I just think that the author had an ending that he was working towards but not a real plan and how to get there.
I want to address the Janet situation real quick since everyone else has. I did not like the character not because of they being nonbinary but because they killed the Candy and Alessa love triangle storyline. that's another dropped major plotline where we will never know why unless Alessa was targeted for assassination.
I stand behind the five stars I gave this book because I was reviewing it on its individual merits but the negativity of my review overshadowed everything else. still this is a great book I hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I did

My Review
Revisado: 11-23-20
I was going to wait until Cyberpunk 2077 came out before relistening to the book but in the fallout of the 2020 election thought to myself why wait when we are living the dream. That’s not a political statement I think EVERYONE can agree that with corporations wilding unchecked power, and government unable/unwilling to govern we are on the precipice of living in a cyberpunk dystopian world. Even the technology there, thanks to our smart devices we are cyborgs. The only thing that separates us from Agent G, ahem Case’s world is that we haven’t embraced transhumanism just yet but with how popular wearable smart tech is it’s only a matter of time before the tech goes from on us to inside us.
So what did I think of the book? I loved it. It has all the humor, action, adventure, and plot twits that CT is known for. And oh the plot twits. CT characters think very differently then I do so in a manner consistent with all that come before they make choices I don’t see coming but it’s not twisty to be twisty. I was going to knock it a bit because I didn’t think until the last page everything was going to be wrapped up but then it was in a very satisfying manner. By all means get this book but make sure you listen in order, these books aren’t episodic but part of a larger single story. Just reading the first couple of paragraphs will spoil the first two so really go in order.

What if all the villains of slasher movies were real? What if the movies made about them were just adaptations of real-life killers with supernatural powers? This is a fact known to William and Carrie because their father, Billy the Undying, was one of the worst slashers of all time. So much so that they've spent the past decade in an asylum out of fear they'd end up just like him. Escaping, the two have decided to form a new life on the road. Except, a chance encounter in a dingy diner introduces William to the girl of his dreams.

This was not the book I wanted but rather the book that I needed. I never been into slashers and have no desire to read a book about death and mayem given Covid 19. I only bouht it to support Phipps and Kafer. I loved it so much because it was funny. A really good time. I think CT wrote it during the pandemic and it was theraputic for him. It certainly was for me.

Wraith Knight Review
Revisado: 06-05-20
It's my day off and I hate writing reviews. The fact I'm doing this and on a tablet, bad neck and worse keyboard should tell you how much I loved this story. I want you to go in fresh so imagine if legandary Jedi Master Luke Skywalker slayed Darth vader went to attack the emperor was struck down and turned into Vader. Now imagine evil first order killed the emporer and Luke awoke with Vader's powers and is now fightin along side Rei and Ben Solo. Everything you fought for is gone and history been rewritten by the victors and maybe what you knew back when was a lie That's our hero's situation only in a fantasy setting written wonderfully by CT Phips and expertly narrated by Peter berkrot who knocked it out of the park.
