Missing spelling for the hard of hearing
Revisado: 01-19-23
The good: Paul Noble introduces one new word at a time in a logical way (for English speakers) and the native German speaker pronounces the word or phrase slowly and clearly and then again at a natural pace.
The bad and ugly: It is so frustrating to have to pause the video and look up the spelling of the new word.
If only they would start with teaching the alphabet and then for each new word the native speaker would say it once slowly, then spell it out, then say it again. Just spelling it out *ONCE* would be perfect. For those who need to 'see' the word to pronounce it, for example hard of hearing people, having it spelled out (just the first time!) makes a world of difference. What beginner could guess the spelling of a word like 'mochte' (with umlaut) or 'sehen'??! Hard of hearing at high frequencies will miss the t at the end of 'dort' until they see it once. Because of this huge flaw I can't use this audiobook to learn German comfortably while driving or cooking or cleaning or walking... and I curse the author out every time I can't distinguish the sounds in the new word and I have to stop to look up the spelling.
Spelling new words ONCE would add only a few seconds (some fluff could easily be cut if necessary) and the return on investment would be huge.

Historia
After thirteen-year-old Agnes Fisher faints at school, her teacher, the young and still idealistic Amy Slade, is shocked to discover in the girl’s desk two stereoscopic photographs. One is of a dead baby in its cradle, and on the back Agnes has scrawled a terrible message. Worse, the other photograph is of Agnes in a pose captioned “What Mr. Newly Wed Really Wants.”

A gripping story, and along the way, Murdoch's love life heats up, but it's complicated...

Historia
In this, his third adventure, the lovable detective William Murdoch becomes involved with the apparent suicide of Constable Oliver Wicken, a man who was the sole support of his mother and invalid sister. But further investigation by Detective Murdoch takes him far afield, and he begins to suspect that the Eakin family, whose house adjoins the one where Wicken died, is more involved with the case than they admit. Here, once again, Maureen Jennings brings the period vividly to life.

Excellent story, good performance
Revisado: 03-08-21
Wish the book was narrated by several people men and women voices. But pretty quickly you get into the story which is excellent. And then you get used to the (male) narrater's different falsettos and accents used for the various characters.

Historia
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

I learned so much
Revisado: 08-28-20
The format, the performance, the content.. All superb! Helps a lot to understand why we make mistakes of trust, and not beat yourself up so much when, in hindsight, you trusted by mistake. Seems we are hard-wired with a very high threshold for detecting lies..

Historia
Explore the power of the underdog in Malcolm Gladwell's dazzling examination of success, motivation, and the role of adversity in shaping our lives, from the best-selling author of The Bomber Mafia. Three thousand years ago on a battlefield in ancient Palestine, a shepherd boy felled a mighty warrior with nothing more than a stone and a sling, and ever since then the names of David and Goliath have stood for battles between underdogs and giants. David's victory was improbable and miraculous. He shouldn't have won. Or should he have?
