Historia
Free Refills is the harrowing tale of a Harvard-trained medical doctor run horribly amok through his addiction to prescription medication, and his recovery. Dr. Peter Grinspoon seemed to be a total success: A Harvard-educated MD with a thriving practice; married with two great kids and a gorgeous wife; a pillar of his community. But lurking beneath the thin veneer of having it all was an addict fueled on a daily boatload of prescription meds. When the police finally came calling - after a tip from a sharp-eyed pharmacist - Grinspoon's house of cards came tumbling down fast.

Historia
Each year, over 40,000 new students enter America's law schools. Each new crop experiences high rates of depression, anxiety, fatigue, and dissatisfaction. Kathryne Young was one of those students and set out to learn more about the law school experience and how to improve it for future students. Combining her own observations and experiences with the results of her study and the latest sociological research on law schools, Young offers a very different take from previous books about law school survival.

extremely helpful. i was pleasantly surprised.
Revisado: 12-17-20
i expected this book to be the same run of the mill book but it was full of wisdom. i was especially impressed with the even- handedness of the content — it discusses issues encountered by “liberals” as well as a more conservative viewpoint. This better reflects the nature of my law school experience. This book helped me decide some key strategies for my next semesters. This book gave me insight into some of the issues I was having.

Chinese police are instructed to take any measures necessary to protect the border of Tibet. When a group of climbers witness the murder of a young Tibetan nun who is fleeing to India, two men have a choice: turn a blind eye and preserve their climbing careers or alert the world to the grand scale of human injustice played out daily in Tibet.

very sad but important truths emerge
Revisado: 03-29-19
the author does a great job of explaining the conflict in tibet. i knew there were human rights abuses in tibet but did not have a clear picture of what is happening. this book uses a specific incident to illustrate china’s inhumanity and imperialism and how so much of the world is in thrall to china.

amazing detail, sometimes clunky writing
Revisado: 11-24-17
so ambitious a plot. really fully realized dystopian future.
the characters were so well done. jumped off the page, well, phone.
narrator was great but must have gotten super tired of reading all the unecessary “he said” and “she said”.
cant wait to read more of this author.
liked this book better than any other dystopian genre novel.

Historia
Lacy Johnson bangs on the glass doors of a sleepy local police station in the middle of the night. Her feet are bare; her body is bruised and bloody; U-bolts dangle from her wrists. She has escaped but not unscathed. The Other Side is the haunting account of a first passionate and then abusive relationship; the events leading to Johnson's kidnapping, rape, and imprisonment; her dramatic escape; and her hard-fought struggle to recover.

Unexpected. Well written. Poetic and I hate poetry. Real honest.
Revisado: 08-10-17
I just downloaded this on a whim but felt it was very well written. The author performs it movingly and her voice is clear and tone is just right. I read everything from the Caro biographies of Johnson to Moral Tribes by Joshua Greene to novels by Adichie, Murakami, Kunzru and David Mitchell. Barbara Kingsolver and Dorothy Allison had a memoir baby and this is it.
