I tried so hard... but I couldn't listen any more...
Revisado: 11-10-24
I have to be honest, I think this is probably the worst audio book I've listened to. And that's saying a lot, because I've listened to hundreds. And I admit, I didn't finish it. I couldn't. It dragged on and on. Jenny, the main character, is one of the most insecure, anxiety prone, whining characters I have come across in a book. Be prepared to hear the word "says" a gazillion times. The narrator pronounces it like "days" or "pays" which becomes distracting. The premise sounded interesting, though.

Historia
Andrew Yancy—late of the Miami Police and soon-to-be-late of the Monroe County sheriff’s office—has a human arm in his freezer. There’s a logical (Hiaasenian) explanation for that, but not for how and why it parted from its shadowy owner. Yancy thinks the boating-accident/shark-luncheon explanation is full of holes, and if he can prove murder, the sheriff might rescue him from his grisly Health Inspector gig (it’s not called the roach patrol for nothing).

Classic Hiaasen 👍🏻 Great Florida AND Bahamas backdrop to an amusing mystery. And Arte Johnson as the narrator was perfect. Wish he could have done more.

Historia
Judith Potts is 77 years old and blissfully happy. She lives on her own in a faded mansion just outside Marlow, there’s no man in her life to tell her what to do or how much whisky to drink, and to keep herself busy she sets crosswords for The Times newspaper. One evening, while out swimming in the Thames, Judith witnesses a brutal murder. The local police don’t believe her story, so she decides to investigate for herself and is soon joined in her quest by Suzie, a salt-of-the-earth dog-walker, and Becks, the prim and proper wife of the local vicar.

Great narration and twists up to the very end!
Revisado: 08-19-24
This is perfect for a British cozy mystery. Not too gruesome or bloody, but still several murders. Lots of plot twists and not easy to figure out ahead of time. The narration was excellent! I will follow the series for when I want some light listening with a touch of British humor.

The narrator was great, but other than that...
Revisado: 10-20-23
I have to be honest, I couldn't finish it. the stories in the beginning were good, but when it got past that, I was so bored. I kept listening for a few chapters, hoping it would get better, but it just dragged out her life, travel and such. I always feel I tried to give a book a full chance. this is one of very few that I have never finished. I really liked the narration, but other than that, I wouldn't recommend it.

Historia
“The Heron” is the nickname a big-city accountant has attached to himself in his new home near San Diego, where he’s using the alias to avoid a hit man who may be after him. It seems a former client believes that The Heron has skipped town with several million dollars not his own. Don Winslow’s ensuing, entertaining yarn is by turns twisty, dark, and comical as we observe the delicate dance between the pursuer and the pursued.

Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Revisado: 03-01-23
I thoroughly enjoyed this little short story! Ed Harris was a great narrator, and I don't want to spoil it too much, but the ending was great! Just what I needed for a short ride listen. (PS: it helps to remember there are FOUR main male characters: the client, the middle man, the assassin and the target. Right towards the end, it helps).

Too repetitive, got too tedious
Revisado: 02-20-23
I listened to the first book, and thought that so many facts in the story were repeated far too much, but the mystery was pretty good. This one went above and beyond. Chapter after chapter, the same notes and facts about folks were repeated, as though it were a miniseries and you had not heard before. It's like the author felt like she needed to catch the reader up repeatedly. I was getting so bored, I skipped from Chapter 9 to the last Chapter 15 and didn't miss a thing. I do like the author narrators voice though, and thought she did a really good job overall.

Historia
The story that made Agatha Christie famous ends with one of her most dramatic twists. The villagers of King’s Abbot are shocked when a wealthy local widow commits suicide and the very next day her fiancé, Roger Ackroyd, is stabbed to death. Dr. James Sheppard, the local physician, discovers the body of his friend and narrates the ensuing hunt for the killer. All the guests and staff at Ackroyd's country house seem to have solid alibis - except for his missing stepson.

The Washington Post said, "Nobody does smart, gutsy, funny, sexy women better than Susan Isaacs". Add to that praise the adjective "strong", and you've got Susan's latest protagonist, Marianne Kent. Her life may not seem thrilling - living with her widowed mother, majoring in economics, working in an elegant dress store after classes to put away money for graduate school - but she's determined to make a better life for herself and her mom.

Between 2005 and 2009, the bodies of eight women were discovered around the murky canals and crawfish ponds of Jennings, Louisiana, a bayou town of 10,000 in the Jefferson Davis parish. Law enforcement officials were quick to pursue a serial killer theory, opening a floodgate of media coverage, from CNN to the New York Times. Revisado: 09-23-22
if you think the politicians and law enforcement are corrupt in your county, just listen to this! I'm from Mississippi, and even I think this is a travesty. it's sad that the events are true. I will say, you might need to have a scorecard to keep track of the characters, as many of them have the same last names. great narration. I really enjoyed it, and would eventually like to know the outcome of all investigations.
