Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

A hair raising plot. Between the writing and the narration i was riveted! The plot has brought the characters from Three Pines into the world of domestic terrorism….frightening…!

The Book is a Delight to explore
Revisado: 02-05-24
“Embodying Tara” is a delightful, heartfelt exploration of the 21 Manifestations of the Buddhist Feminine Buddha, Arya Tara. I found the author’s soft and articulate narration of the 21 Tara’s heartfelt and passionate. It made it easy to follow the guided meditations and also her personal touch on the anecdotal sections of the book helped to give the book a feeling of personal warmth and accessibility.
Not only that but the book is filled with scholarly information on the history of Tara and the Sanskrit and Tibetan derivatives of her many names without making it drag or interrupt the narrative flow.
My favorite part of the book are the examples of the women from around the world and from
Many faiths and cultures that She adds to each chapter as real embodiments of the qualities of each of the Taras.
I highly recommend this book on both its audio and print for anyone who wants to dive deeply into the divine feminine. It calls to all women, not just the practitioners of Buddhism.

Historia
Valdez Jones VIII calls himself Wrecker because his great-great-great-great-great-grandfather salvaged shipwrecks for a living. So is it destiny, irony, or just bad luck when Wrecker comes across a speedboat that has run hard aground on a sand flat? The men in the boat don't want Wrecker to call for help—in fact, they'll pay him to forget he ever saw them. Wrecker would be happy to forget, but he keeps seeing these men all over Key West—at the marina, even in the cemetery. And now they want more than his silence—they want a lookout.

Young Adult books almost as whacky as Adult Books Is
Revisado: 12-30-23
I love Carl Hiaasen. His stories never disappoint. I didn’t realize that the book was considered a young adult book at first until I realized the lack of Florida Style mayhem, No one is eaten by a snake or dispatched in some other unique way….but there was plenty of intrigue and veiled political innuendo. The story telling was entertaining and well read and the plot had plenty of Hiaasen twists and turns. Recommended to old readers as well as young….

Revisado: 04-16-21
I am not sure what magic Mr. Wheeler weaves in his books but most of them are just page turners! The stories are fun and he weaves many different threads of science, magic, literature and philosophy through these books. Also I am so glad Kate Rudd is narrating the majority of the stories as her acting is stellar. I hope she continues with the new books that are being released!

Wow and Wow! Thank you For Another Special Series
Revisado: 07-22-20
I am a big fan of N.K. Jemisin and this book is at the top of my list of favorites!
Robin Miles' Narration was top notch and her ability to inhabit each character so fully was astounding!
The whole premise of the book is very timely in every way and I cannot wait for the next in the series!
I bought this as an Audiobook to listen to when I was driving and after having to pull over to shout at my car speakers I decided I might want to listen to it in a safer space!
I actually need to read this in print or on my Kindle, but Robin Miles voices will inhabit my head when I do!

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

A Magical Book Which I will Now Read
Revisado: 07-22-20
What a spectacularly written, poetic book! Too bad it was marred by inconsistent narration. Xe Sands was not ideal as a reader for this particular book. Her narration was choppy and sometimes I couldn't understand what she was saying as she would speak quickly and run her words together at times....especially at the beginning. Angelo Di Loreto was fine although I didn't know if the accent is real or affected...
The translation was wonderful and a love the book as a whole. Therefore I will go back and read it in print. I wish my Spanish was good enough to read in the original but I think the translation captures the tone and feel beautifully.

The material in this book is too dense for a listen.
And the narration doesn’t help.

Historia
In this modern spiritual classic, the Tibetan meditation master Chögyam Trungpa highlights the commonest pitfall to which every aspirant on the spiritual path falls prey: what he calls spiritual materialism. The universal tendency, he shows, is to see spirituality as a process of self-improvement - the impulse to develop and refine the ego when the ego is, by nature, essentially empty. "The problem is that ego can convert anything to its own use," he said, "even spirituality."

The narration is better than some of his books but it was still a little stilted :
however the teachings are phenomenal and everyone involved in the Dharma should read this book in particular.

Historia
It is 1923. Mary Russell Holmes and her husband, the retired Sherlock Holmes, are enjoying the summer together on their Sussex estate when they are visited by an old friend, Miss Dorothy Ruskin, an archeologist just returned from Palestine. She leaves in their protection an ancient manuscript which seems to hint at the possibility that Mary Magdalene was an apostle—an artifact certain to stir up a storm of biblical proportions in the Christian establishment.

The feel of the adventure and the interactions between Russell and Holmes feel authentic to Conan Doyle's original character. The narration is brilliant and the storyline engaging.

A change of scene for Dave...
Revisado: 09-14-13
I wasn't sure about this when I started. Wasn't sure of the reading wasn't sure of the surroundings...Dave being out of Louisiana... but the writing was so beautiful if not a bit more brutal than previous books...
Will Patton's narration grew on me also and I ended up really liking it.
This is the first time I have listened to one of Burke's books as opposed to reading.
I loved it.
Burke is a true poet of the crime genre and a great writer...and this book is no exception!
I will now go back and read the hard copy...
