Read the book vs listening to audio

Content makes so much sense and so practical. Reader speaks with high rise terminal which distracts greatly from the message.

Cannot hear the dialogue from participants So half of the tape cannot be heard. It made the comprehension quite difficult and miserable for the listener. The actual lecture was not too bad.

Historia
A smart and funny book by a prominent Harvard psychologist, which uses groundbreaking research and (often hilarious) anecdotes to show us why we’re so lousy at predicting what will make us happy–and what we can do about it. Most of us spend our lives steering ourselves toward the best of all possible futures, only to find that tomorrow rarely turns out as we had expected. Why? As Harvard psychologist Daniel Gilbert explains, when people try to imagine what the future will hold, they make some basic and consistent mistakes.

Good content
Revisado: 04-27-19
Lots of good ideas. It is a little hard to follow on audible so I searched and found a few summaries. I think that the use of attempts of humor with one liners was overdone and took away from the message.

Historia
Like millions of her millennial peers, Rachel Held Evans didn't want to go to church anymore. The hypocrisy, the politics, the gargantuan building budgets, the scandals - church culture seemed so far removed from Jesus. Yet despite her cynicism and misgivings, something kept drawing her back. And so she set out on a journey to understand the Church and to find her place in it.

Good Content and Stories

Well researched, replete with examples. Very wordy made difficult by the sing-song narration; makes it sound like narrator is talking down to the listener especially during the long lists.

Got Better

Narrative got better in the latter chapters although a bit conflicting in the example of chapter 4 Bold and 5 Service. Some anecdotal reasoning throughout. Narrator’s voice got more guttural as the book went along.

Lots of coherent facts and logically arranged and supported. Buy the book. The audio was difficult for me as the enunciation of the “s” sounds (r.g., practice and many others) was not crisp but slurry.

On the Brink of Everything: Grace, Gravity, and Getting Old

Historia
Reframing aging as "a passage of discovery and engagement", Palmer says, "Old is just another word for nothing left to lose, a time to take bigger risks on behalf of the common good." On the Brink of Everything is not a "guide to" or "handbook for" getting old. Instead, it's Palmer turning the prism of insight on his experience as a way of encouraging listeners to do the same with theirs. In elegant prose and lyrical poetry, he offers a set of meditations on the meanings of one's life - past, present, and future.

Historia
The Sacred Enneagram is a trustworthy, richly insightful guide to finding yourself in the enneagram's 9-type profiles, and applying this practical wisdom for a life transformed. Far more than a personality test, author Chris Heuertz writes, the enneagram is a sacred map to the soul. Lies about who we think we are keep us trapped in loops of self-defeat. But the enneagram offers a bright path to cutting through the internal clutter and finding our way back to God and to our true identity as God created us.

In business, the right behaviors matter. But getting it right is tricky. Even when we acknowledge the need to change what we do and how we do it, life has a habit of getting in the way, upsetting even the best-laid plans. And just how do we manage those situations that can provoke even the most rational among us into behaving in ways we would rather forget?

Gravely Voice
Revisado: 01-08-19
Very good content, however the voice distracted from the story. Speaker’s throat had resonance to it. Also the sing songy presentation and pattern of rising at the end of the sentence proved to be distracting.
