Good story if you can get past the accent
Revisado: 11-05-19
This was a nice story and it was pretty well done, entertaining and heartwarming. The narrator made me believe that she was a 50-something woman of color. Also true is that this was probably the worst British accent I've ever heard attempted. It was a strange mix sounding of German, English and perhaps West Indian, something...I actually chuckled and wondered if the narrator had never seen BBC or PBS, even if just to prepare for this role? The writing was pretty good but I had to also grapple with confusion about the usage of words like "him" instead of "he" and "at" instead of "with", throughout the story. Professional book editors may not exist anymore. This was a nice use of time though and the book was a relaxing, happy tale. It's worth your time if you don't take it too seriously.

When Lola Franklin decided to study abroad she never anticipated embarking on a whirlwind weekend romance with a hot guy before classes started. And she certainly never counted on the hot guy being her new professor. Or a Prince. Or the biggest asshole she had ever met. Xavier Van Romerius is the playboy Prince of Europe and he loves his life. He doesn't do relationships, and never wants to get married.

Rape-ish, Abusive, Flat Characters- Awful.
Revisado: 06-13-18
I anticipated reading fluff when I downloaded this book. I was not expecting the cure for cancer, I promise. Unfortunately, this book is exceedingly terrible. It reads like a poorly written story by a 9th grader. There is practically no character development, I can't really find much plot development either and the relationships between the characters are abusive, cheap, inflammatory, and poorly done. Even the sexual encounters are flat and dull. It all seems more like date rape and the discussions about women who behave like whores is downright repugnant. It reads like a 9th grader's round table of insults in the late 1980's. Pure garbage. I think Audible should have paid me to listen to this one.

It's 1864 in downtrodden Lowell, Massachusetts. The Civil War has taken its toll on the town - leaving the economy in ruin and its women in dire straits. That is, until Asa Mercer arrives on a peculiar, but providential, errand: he seeks high-minded women who can exert an elevating influence in Seattle, where there are ten men for every woman. Mail-order brides, yes, but of a certain caliber.

Well Written Yet Heart-Wrenching Content
Revisado: 02-08-17
If you could sum up The Most Dangerous Place on Earth in three words, what would they be?
Fascinating. Unsettling. Mournful.
What other book might you compare The Most Dangerous Place on Earth to and why?
There are moments this reminded me of Rules of Attraction by Brett Easton Ellis, but these characters were far more redeemable. Their series of decisions were smaller, less regrettable, less intentional. More alive.
Any additional comments?
The first chapter of this book had me sobbing. Driving home from work, heading into a weekend and sobbing uncontrollably. This never happens, I assure you. I felt the hopelessness and abandonment of these characters. I knew what was coming and was powerless to stop it. I read each chapter to see their own views, their personal journeys and if they may be able to become entangled from the web of a shared experience. I read with so much hope for them all that this may be fixable. They all learn. They all grow and evolve. They all pay. Some of this is self inflicted and some of this is the product of the negligence or occasional yet fierce smothering around them. This is very well orchestrated, well coordinated and still an emotional tale. It's an interesting story where I somehow miss a character I never knew and can never comfort or guide. From that perspective alone, this book is extraordinary.

It's a heartwarming read. It's done well. The characters are intelligent and the plot is developed. The details of the Amish life they lead are very interesting also. This was a pleasant stress buster for me.

Had Elizabeth Bennet known what awaited her at Rosings Park, she never would have agreed to visit. An atrocious proposal, the constant condescension of her hosts' haughty patroness, and an unsavory debt collector prowling about are only the beginning of her problems when a lady's diamond earrings go missing. Fitzwilliam Darcy regrets extending his visit at Rosings when the only woman he's ever desired irrevocably refuses his offer of marriage. Then someone robs his cousin's jewelry box. Elizabeth has stolen his heart, but did she steal the diamonds?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This story is very interesting and the characters become dear to your heart. While I was being entertained with their perspectives, I was falling in love with their quirks and learning so many details about their lives in WWII that I never even considered before.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This stretched my heart and my mind, the perfect combination. By the 5th chapter I was laughing and crying with them as if I was there.
Any additional comments?
The accents in this were just superb. I could certainly listen to this over again, it's such a great choice.

Here at Audible, we know just how much of an impact a voice can have on a story - taking simple words and filling them with elation, wonderment, tragedy, or pure satisfaction. We rely on our narrators every day to bring our favorite stories and characters to life - to introduce us to new authors and genres, or even to a new (perhaps longer) commute. And though our narrators are the best story tellers in the business, it's usually someone else's that they're telling.

Surprisingly well done. who knew?
Revisado: 12-22-16
I bought this just to listen to Shane East during a very stressful week. He could have been reading the phone book with this voice, this accent. Based upon the book cover, I thought I'd hate this story or find it vacuous. To my surprise, there is a solid story line. Developed characters and plot to be found here! I'm looking forward to the next in the series now...and more Shane East too please. PS, a little full of the not quite old enough to be mommy porn, but it's fine. Not negative or positive really, just repetitive. Worth reading.
