Historia
At age 19, Natasha Trethewey had her world turned upside down when her former stepfather shot and killed her mother. Grieving and still new to adulthood, she confronted the twin pulls of life and death in the aftermath of unimaginable trauma and now explores the way this experience lastingly shaped the artist she became. With penetrating insight and a searing voice that moves from the wrenching to the elegiac, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Natasha Trethewey explores this profound experience of pain, loss, and grief.

A wonderful memoir, both intimate and transcendent
Revisado: 08-30-20
I hung on every word of Natasha Trethewey's voice as both writer and narrator of this compelling story. I look forward to reading--and hearing--more from her.

Historia
The Journey of Not Knowing offers a fast paced, entertaining read that gets to the heart of a critical state in today’s business climate and society overall: the constantly changing, ambiguous 21st Century with uncharted waters ahead. This book offers a new leadership approach that will inspire leaders of any size organization to view the discomfort of the new as a source of adventure rather than an obstacle to building a better future. Through the vehicle of a story about an eight-member leadership team of a fictional company, The Journey of Not Knowing follows the defended behaviors of its recognizable characters through their efforts to avoid and then solve the mystery of why a client fired them. The reward of the discovery is a critical piece of business and significant personal growth. The book opens with an experience of the author as an executive in Amazon’s early days and ends with the Journey of Not Knowing leadership model.

Essential lessons in leadership for today's world.
Revisado: 04-28-19
I was hooked from the beginning by the premise that not knowing--and being energized by the unknown---are the essential challenges of leadership. I was held engaged by the author's personal story, her ability to draw broadly applicable lressons from her experience, and by the narrator's vivid, lively narrative style.

Historia
Thomas McNulty, having fled the Great Famine in Ireland and now barely 17 years old, signs up for the US Army in the 1850s and with his brother in arms, John Cole, goes to fight in the Indian Wars - against the Sioux and the Yurok - and, ultimately, in the Civil War. Orphans of terrible hardships themselves, they find these days to be vivid and alive, despite the horrors they see and are complicit in. Moving from the plains of Wyoming to Tennessee, Sebastian Barry's latest work is a masterpiece of atmosphere and language.

Poetry should be read aloud, as should this prose.
Revisado: 09-24-17
Kelly's narration is perfect for Barry's narrative. Made listening to literature an especially pleasurable experience.
