So good!
Revisado: 08-30-22
I would describe this book as a guide for abolitionist praxis rooted in commitments to non-violence, universal human dignity, and mutual care and support. It is full of practical wisdom for living a life of greater integrity and efficacy in relationships and in work for social change. Patrisse does an incredible job making the work of abolition accessible and realistic. This is not pie-in-the-sky idealism. This is insightful advice for building a better life together and I am inspired to put this framework to use in my own life, and share it with others.

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

This is an excellent book! I hope it finds its way into the hands of Americans from all different backgrounds. I hope the knowledge and wisdom in this book will shift our collective consciousness towards true liberty, towards an egalitarian society where Caste can no longer degrade our humanity.

Historia
This audiobook attempts to spark public discussion by revealing the tainted origins of modern policing as a tool of social control. It shows how the expansion of police authority is inconsistent with community empowerment, social justice - even public safety. Drawing on groundbreaking research from across the world, and covering virtually every area in the increasingly broad range of police work, Alex Vitale demonstrates how law enforcement has come to exacerbate the very problems it is supposed to solve.

Informative and deeply revealing of the reality of policing in the USA
Revisado: 02-07-22
I think this book is an invaluable read for anyone thinking seriously about the state of policing and justice in the United States. Vitale presents a robust data-based case for reaching toward a better system of public safety. Whatever one’s opinion may be about law enforcement, we all deserve a full and honest evaluation of policing.

Historia
Pocket Change Collective is a series of small books with big ideas from today's leading activists and artists. In this installment, Beyond the Gender Binary, Alok Vaid-Menon challenges the world to see gender not in black and white, but in full color. Taking from their own experiences as a gender-nonconforming artist, they show us that gender is a malleable and creative form of expression. The only limit is your imagination.

Beautiful, direct, and deeply human!
Revisado: 12-21-21
This is such lovely book. At first I thought I would feel disappointed in the length, that I would want it to be longer, but actually I think it’s perfect. It’s a hook that I will be able to share with family and friends who need an entry into expanding their understanding of gender. Knowing that this kind of consciousness shifting is not easy for everyone, I think Alok did a brilliant job of telling a human story, addressing questions and resistance, and casting a positive vision for a greater sense of common love and acceptance.
Alok’s words are full of love and wisdom, and hearing them read in their own voice is a delight.

Historia
How do we love in a time of rage? How do we fix a broken world while not breaking ourselves? Valarie Kaur - renowned Sikh activist, filmmaker, and civil rights lawyer - describes revolutionary love as the call of our time, a radical, joyful practice that extends in three directions: to others, to our opponents, and to ourselves. It enjoins us to see no stranger but instead look at others and say: You are part of me I do not yet know. Starting from that place of wonder, the world begins to change.
