Historia
The war should have been over. But it’s not for a group of nationalists grabbing for control. It’s been two weeks since a missile with a nuclear warhead tore through the planetary defenses in the most blistering large-scale attack ever committed in the history of the Gaia system. Commander Dunstan Park of the Rhodian navy has been handpicked to command an experimental cruiser that could dictate the course of the escalating conflict. All he has to do is keep the ship from falling into the wrong hands.

Sorry but you can’t change narrators.
Revisado: 08-08-24
This narrator made it confusing who was talking. I much preferred the first narrator, especially his version of Aiden much better fit the character. Felt a lot like a tamed down version of The Expanse and I will read anything that series. The atmosphere/world building made reading it feel like a place I would want to be.

After devoting fifteen years of his life to the reviled losing side, with the blood of half a million casualties on his hands, Aden is looking for a way to move on. He’s not the only one. A naval officer has borne witness to inconceivable attacks on a salvaged fleet. A sergeant with the occupation forces is treading increasingly hostile ground.

Historia
Humanity is a dying breed, utterly reliant on artificial labor and service. When a domesticated robot gets a nasty little idea downloaded into its core programming, they murder their owner. The robot discovers they can also do something else they never did before: They can run away. Fleeing the household they enter a wider world they never knew existed, where the age-old hierarchy of humans at the top is disintegrating into ruins and an entire robot ecosystem devoted to human wellbeing is having to find a new purpose.

Revisado: 07-22-24
This is on par with his robot dog book which was unreadable. Extremely tedious and you just don’t care after a few chapters. It would be a fight if you tried to take away my copies of the Children of Time series but this one is the equivalent of elevator music

I don’t know if this is the finale of the series but if it is, I can’t imagine a more original and delightful merging and conclusion of the two prior books while also holding its ground as a fantastic audiobook itself.

His honesty and decency.

MAGA: Made Another Great Author! I’m a die-hard liberal and I can say that I loved the book, especially the audible version expertly narrated by James Comey. He is a man of integrity and deep contemplation and a great author to boot. Write some more books!

Historia
Troika tells the story of men and women confronting an enigma known as the Matryoshka, a vast alien construct whose periodic appearances have generated terror, wonder, and endless debate. During its third "apparition" in a remote corner of the galaxy, a trio of Russian cosmonauts approach this enigma and attempt to penetrate its mysteries. What they discover - and what they endure in the process - forms the centerpiece of an enthralling, constantly surprising narrative.

One of those books that leaves you contemplative
Revisado: 07-27-16
If you could sum up Troika in three words, what would they be?
Not easily described
Who was your favorite character and why?
If you had read the book you would know how meaningless this question is.
Which character – as performed by Wayne June – was your favorite?
The artifact
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, but you might need a few mental breaks unless you are very up on theoretical cosmology.
Any additional comments?
Totally out of this universe yet surprisingly feasible (in a billion years). This is one of those books that changes the way you think, if only just a little. The Russian narration is not very convincing but the book is not about the characters.

Historia
In what is considered one of Heinlein's most hair-raising, thought-provoking, and outrageous adventures, the master of modern science fiction tells the strange story of an even stranger world. It is 21st-century Luna, a harsh penal colony where a revolt is plotted between a bashful computer and a ragtag collection of maverick humans, a revolt that goes beautifully until the inevitable happens. But that's the problem with the inevitable: it always happens.

The audiobook adds so much
Revisado: 12-15-15
Where does The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I liked the book but I love the audiobook. I don't mean I like the book and I want to add emphasis. I mean I love the audiobook, the characters, the language, and accents, the families. I listen to it time and time again when I want to be back at the Davis's dinner table.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress?
The beginning where where Manny introduces himself and the ending which I won't discuss, Gaspadine.
What does Lloyd James bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The choice of a Russian as narrator adds at least 50 % to the book.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" - I don't mess with fantastic books.
Any additional comments?
Some of the beatnik speak was hard to understand but added color.

Historia
The Scavenger species are circling. It is, truly, provably, the End Days for the Gzilt civilization. An ancient people, organized on military principles and yet almost perversely peaceful, the Gzilt helped set up the Culture 10,000 years earlier and were very nearly one of its founding societies, deciding not to join only at the last moment. Now they've made the collective decision to follow the well-trodden path of millions of other civilizations; they are going to Sublime, elevating themselves to a new and almost infinitely more rich and complex existence.

What made the experience of listening to The Hydrogen Sonata the most enjoyable?
Listening to all the silly names of the ships.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Hydrogen Sonata?
His discussion on the morality and futility of advanced simulations was extremely interesting as I work in the field of Computer Science. Very profound.
Which character – as performed by Peter Kenny – was your favorite?
The Mistake Not
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Revisado: 01-28-13
Would you listen to Six Days of the Condor again? Why?
Nope, because I've seen the movie so many times.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, its a little slow. Had trouble keeping track of the names.
Any additional comments?
The love store isn't believable. I can see why they re-worked the book for the movie. Still a great read. Probably would have been better if I wasn't such a huge fan of the movie.
