The story moves along but has enough suspense to keep the reader captivated. Romance, outrage and intrigue; it’s all there!

Historia
My name is Cade Ombra, and though I currently make my living as a mercenary wonderist, I used to have a far more noble-sounding job title—until I discovered the people I worked for weren't quite as noble as I'd believed. Now I'm on the run and my only friend, a homicidal thunder mage, has invited me to join him on a suicide mission against the seven deadliest mages on the continent. Time to recruit some very bad people to help us on this job.

I like to escape into fantasy novels sometimes and this one was fun! Likable, quirky characters and a fantastic narrator made this book something I would recommend.

Same old, same old…
Revisado: 04-17-23
Serial killer bent on killing the one that got away, victim turned cop trying to catch her. A few twists but really the same old thing. Reader was kind of boring and didn’t quite hit the levels of emotion or intensity required for a good read. To be fair, I didn’t finish it so review is based on what I did finish. A few hours in and I just got bored.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Loser!
Revisado: 04-25-20
I can’t believe so many give this book high praise. I liked the story as it unfolded, but hated the character, Rachel. Oh, poor me! Maybe I just hate the plight of alcoholics. But I couldn’t get past the first hour. Weak character with many flaws; unlikable to a fault.
On the flip side, my sister loved this book, so there is no telling what people will like. Wonderful reader and an interesting story but the pathetic character was too much.

Historia
Nicola Marter was born with a gift. When she touches an object, she sometimes glimpses those who have owned it before. When a woman arrives with a small wooden carving at the gallery Nicola works at, she can see the object’s history and knows that it was named after the Firebird - the mythical creature from an old Russian fable. Compelled to know more, Nicola follows a young girl named Anna who leads her into the past on a quest through the glittering backdrops of the Jacobites and Russian courts, unearthing a tale of love, courage, and redemption.

I was immersed!
Revisado: 05-02-19
A story like this makes me rejoice that there are authors that can put words and sentences together in such a way that you actually feel the story. The skillfully woven present, past, history and romance made me feel like I was there. And, although beautifully written, Katherine Kellgren elevated the story to it’s awesome height; to stand as one of my favorite books. Beautiful!

Such mixed reviews...but I liked it!
Revisado: 10-26-18
This was a nice change from my normal murder/mystery genre. The story was entertaining and when it got a little...high schoolish, the narrator's beautiful performance carried my right through it. I liked the way the story moved seamlessly between past and present, leaving me wanting more of both! Glad I didn't listen to the poor reviews. It was worth a credit!

Quentin Coldwater is brilliant but miserable. A senior in high school, he's still secretly preoccupied with a series of fantasy novels he read as a child, set in a magical land called Fillory. Imagine his surprise when he finds himself unexpectedly admitted to a very secret, very exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, where he receives a thorough and rigorous education in the craft of modern sorcery.

I was disappointed...
Revisado: 06-23-18
I guess I expected JK Rowling type of writing with the talent and flair that she brought to Harry Potter. I love magic and the thought of a magic school so I was expecting to really like this book. The story started out well, but I lost interest quickly. It was like reading a novel about high school (which it kind of is)...but where is the magic of it all? Flat. The only redeeming value...The reader! Wow! Truly brilliant! Maybe the TV series will be better.

Historia
i>The World According to Bertie is the fourth in the series and revolves around the many colorful characters that come and go at No. 44 Scotland Street. McCall Smith handles the characters with his customary charm and deftness - the stalwart Tory chartered surveyor, the pushy mother, and, most importantly in this novel, the beleaguered Italian-speaking prodigy, Bertie. This is classic McCall Smith - clever, witty and entertaining - and beautifully illustrated.

Yawn...
Revisado: 03-02-18
I love this series and have gotten to know and like (or dislike) all of the characters. Alexander McCall Smith is a brilliant author and I will continue on with the series but it did drag on in several places. I couldn't bear to put it down and not find out what happens, but the hours just seemed to drag on. I listened at 1.5 x speed for the last 4 hours and it didn't take away from the reading or story! Robert Ian MacKenzie has a slow speech style anyway, so the speed increase almost made him sound "normal". Not the best in the series so far.

This story spans over hundreds of years without being choppy or awkward. Each part of the story flows into the next in a seamlessly beautiful story that kept me entranced. The reader did a wonderful job portraying all characters, even the males, without a glitch. Thank goodness there is more in the series...I can't wait!

Fulfilling...
Revisado: 12-03-17
Roland Merullo writes in such a way that you forget about hearing the words and feel them instead. Even the most normal of experiences become something special; the colors more vivid, the sounds more crisp. I laughed, cried and became wonderfully immersed in the story. Spirituality without preaching and enlightenment on the sly. I swear I am a better person now!
