Historia
Nothing Like It in the World is the story of the men who built the transcontinental railroad. In Ambrose's hands, this enterprise comes to life. The U.S. government pitted two companies - the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific railroads - against each other in a race for funding, encouraging speed over caution. As its peak the work force approached the size of Civil War armies, with as many as 15,000 workers on each line. The surveyors, the men who picked the route, lived off buffalo, deer, and antelope.

Another Great Ambrose Writing
Revisado: 03-06-25
It is astounding to read about how the USA clawed its way back from the Civil War and the men who funded and built the transcontinental railroad. In an age of supercomputers, rockets to the planets, and jet travel measured in hours and not days, this will take you back to a time when life moved at a very slow and sometimes dangerous pace, The tributes to the Irish, Chinese and many other races of workers that accomplished this massive undertaking are well deserved. The hardships and dangers from weather, indians, and each other make you wonder how it ever got finished. Excellent American history.

Historia
Just after midnight on July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis is sailing alone in the Philippine Sea when she is sunk by two Japanese torpedoes. For the next five nights and four days, almost 300 miles from the nearest land, nearly 900 men battle injuries, sharks, dehydration, insanity, and eventually each other. Only 316 will survive. Lynn Vincent and Sara Vladic tell the complete story of the ship, her crew, and their final mission to save one of their own.

Little Known WWII Navel History
Revisado: 03-06-25
This story is the true history of just one part of the greatest conflict the world has ever known. After delivering the nuclear bomb that was dropped on Japan to end the Pacific War, this battle cruiser was hit by Japanese torpedoes and sunk, taking hundreds of young men to their graves. The way the story is told gives the listener a minute-by-minute look into these brave sailors' daily lives and ultimate deaths. If you are interested in WWII history and the contribution made by the US Navy, you will love this audio book.

Historia
In the early 18th century, the Pirate Republic was home to some of the great pirate captains, including Blackbeard, "Black Sam" Bellamy, and Charles Vane. Along with their fellow pirates - former sailors, indentured servants, and runaway slaves - this "Flying Gang" established a crude but distinctive democracy in the Bahamas, carving out their own zone of freedom in which servants were free, Blacks could be equal citizens, and leaders were chosen or deposed by a vote.

A Detailed Explanation Of An Amazing Story
Revisado: 01-22-23
As a 'Baby Boomer' whose father served in the Marines stationed in the Philippines I have always been irritated by the debate on whether the use of nuclear weapons was justified. This book digs deep into the entire process undertaken from the decision by FDR to create a weapon to the end of the war in the Pacific after dropping two bombs on Japan. I highly recommend it to anyone who finds the use of it offensive.
War is Hell and it should be avoided at all costs but if you are forced to fight you should fight to win. The Germans and the Japanese in the 40's were determined to destroy the allies. The USA and its allies fought to win and they did. The story of how they did should be required reading by all who feel the use of nuclear weapons was immoral.

Born a tanner’s son in rugged Ohio in 1822 and battle-tested by the Mexican-American War, Grant met his destiny on the bloody fields of the Civil War. His daring and resolve as a general gained the attention of President Lincoln, then desperate for bold leadership. Lincoln appointed Grant as Lieutenant General of the Union Army in March 1864. Within a year, Grant’s forces had seized Richmond and forced Robert E. Lee to surrender.

Bret Baier Hits Another Home Run
Revisado: 10-30-21
This is the second book on a president that I have listened to from Mr. Baier. As in the past he does it perfectly. His book on Eisenhower was just as enthralling. This is a story that is perfect for our time. Regardless of your political view and your view of the current situation in the United States this book will give you a great insight on what real leadership is. In my opinion, leadership has been sorely lacking in our government for a number of years. In light of our current situation it's pretty obvious that it is very lacking now. I have always loved American history and where the interesting twists and turns that the political environment we have here takes us. If you are interested in political history or just like to read about great leadership this book is an excellent choice.

Historia
The Gospel of Thomas is a non-canonical scripture dating back to around 50-100 CE that was found near Nag Hammadi, Egypt in 1945 CE, buried in a clay jar with many other documents, all in Coptic, that collectively came to be known as the Nag Hammadi Library of Gnostic texts. A few fragments of the Gospel of Thomas in Greek had previously been found in Oxyrhynchus, Egypt at various times between 1897 CE and 1905 CE.

I chose to read this after listening to the audible version of 'Jesus - A New Vision'. This gospel and the gospel of Mary Magdalene we're both mentioned as references to a deeper understanding of who Jesus was.
Actually the book by Whitley Strieber changed my life and put me in a direction that I have now decided is where I'm supposed to be for the rest of my years. I highly recommend both his book and this Gospel of Thomas rendition. I'm now moving on to the gospel of Mary Magdalene.

Jesus: A New Vision is at once a magisterial work of scholarship and a completely new approach to the meaning and message of Jesus. It comes at a time when the Western world is divided between a declining number of believers in Christian doctrine and an ever-increasing number of people who feel that Jesus was nothing more than a religious zealot who was executed for the crime of sedition.

An Epiphany For Any Believer Or Non-Believer
Revisado: 04-26-21
This book changed my entire worldview. An in-depth look into the life & times of a mortal man who it would appear didn't know he was the Christ until long after his youth & young adulthood. Strieber is an incredible writer who takes you into the story of a spiritual belief system that began as simple teachings from a humble yet incredibly focused & courageous man who set out to deliver a message of hope and strength to people who lived in complicated and dangerous times much like the ones we are in now.
As a man who always looked at life as a predicament rather than a gift of learning & adventure, I have been transformed by this book in the 70th year of my life. Raised in a Methodist home with a strict view of the scriptures I was bored and actually turned off by organized religion. This book showed me why.
Whitley Strieber is a very gifted and engaging writer who is undoubtedly a very spiritual being. If you have any curiosity as to the true origins and development of Christianity this book will stun your imagination.

It reveals the deeper side of a very complex individual and also shares much worthy information into his family and descendants.
