Cool story, but the coded elements just don’t translate to audiobook.

This is a great book to read, not so much to listen to. A big portion of this book is various simple ciphers, like acrostics, that become very difficult to notice and decrypt when they’re read to you and not laid out on the page. I’d definitely recommend checking out this book, but do yourself a big favor and read it instead of listening. You’ll enjoy the whole thing much more that way!

The premise has promise but never delivers. I expected a whimsical mystery about books and instead got a grandpa-friendly “techno-thriller” that reads like Ernest Cline by way of Robert Fulghum. I think this book has the word “Googler” in it about 300 times. The narrator is way too over-the-top and reads like he’s auditioning for an acting gig.

I can’t think of the last thing I’ve read that insulted my intelligence this actively. Hard pass all the way around.

It’s like Lord of the Rings had a baby with Neuromamcer and then that child published a book at age six.

Also the baseball metaphor at the end is LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE

Save your credits for China Mievelle or something
