First audiobook, in over 300, that I could not finish.
Revisado: 07-23-24
This story was so poorly written that the book became unbearable. I cared nothing at all for any of the characters. They completely lacked personalities. Only that non-human AI in its "Rocky" form was in any way interesting. Even worse, as a reader who loves action heavy fiction, somehow this book managed to make it boring and monotonous. A book so unbearable, that I couldn't get a little less than half way though the collection deserves the lowest possible rating.

The hours that this book spends abusing it's protagonist is horrible!
Revisado: 02-09-24
This, by far, is the worst book that I have ever listened to on audible. I would go as far as to say that I despise it.
Brom takes 5 hours to establish his protagonist's hardship. The only way that this could be enjoyed is by some type of oppression fetishist. It lasts for far too long, and is a huge turn off. The next 4.5 hrs is far more enjoyable. It's the Protagonist's time with "Slewfoot". I wish that section made up far more of the book than it did. Then comes a short build up to a false accusation and.... 2 more hours of far more intense and even more uncomfortable oppression and then intense torture! are you serious? Then a 2 hour resolution (solid, quality revenge horror) and then its over.
There was a good story in here somewhere, unfortunately half of it was spent just absolutely beating and abusing poor Abitha. An early death would have been a better fate than what she was put through.
Brom is so much better than this. This book is a fantastic example of what not to do when trying to make a word quota.
One redeeming point of this book that must be mentioned is the narrator. She handled the reading beautifully.

Very Few Stories Kept My Interest
Revisado: 05-16-23
This was a struggle to get through. 3 or 4 of the stories were decent enough to keep my attention, but none of them were great. Despite having a good narrator, this book was such a drag. I can't place what hurt it. Maybe it was the basic descriptions of things, the lifeless characters, or the fact that nothing stood out in these stories. If this book was a free listen, I would have stopped listening half way through it, but because I wasted an audible credit, I made it to the last story before I finally decided to stop wasting my time.

The galaxy is doomed. Monkeys may be clever and too stubborn to give up, but Skippy The Idiot Who Got Played knows the harsh truth: this is a fight he can’t win. The odds are not only stacked against him, he was designed not to win this fight. Maybe he can salvage some faint memory of the civilizations that inhabit the galaxy, but those beings are doomed. Doomed. Including the Merry Band of Pirates.

Phenomenal
Revisado: 12-09-22
After the last few books, I felt like the overall story was dragging on, and was worried about how it would be wrapped up. This book simply blew away my expectations. It was amazing, and Alanson took real risks with the characters that I appreciated. If I had any criticism at all, it's that Skippy's understanding of the universe grew way too quickly, and in an unexplained way near the end, which kind of seemed like an easy way out for the story. Maybe there was a deadline to meet with publishing or something, still I was completely satisfied with this book. It was a non-stop exciting way to wrap up the series. Thanks Craig Alanson and R.C. Bray, the greatest team in audiobooks!

Words can't describe how great this story is
Revisado: 09-29-21
Classic themes reinvented to be amazing, fresh, and new, but still retain the feeling of everything that makes for great horror. It also helps that the main (and supporting) character(s) ooze personality and are relatable, despite this reader being nearly twice his age.

Poorly written immitation of a cool 90's movie
Revisado: 09-23-21
Horribly done immitation of Event Horizon, but without any of the things that made that movie good. The poorly written characters aren't worth caring about, and have backstories consisting of one or two lines. This story is an insult to horror and is why the genre suffers more that it could ever deserve. Avoid at all costs.

Boring Unenergetic Narration
Revisado: 07-27-21
I got theough the first hook, based solely on the quality of the story. This story was not as good and as a result the poor narration kept pulling me out of it. Basil Sands harkens back to the days of when audiobooks were unpopular and commonly bought on cassette tape. The narrators back then didn't realize that acting made the story much more enjoyable to read. The narrator here goes through all of the motions required, but his heart just isn't into it and it shows to dissapointing results. The one exception is his performance of Michael, which always seemed to command my attention, so he deserves credit for a great job on that, at least.

Horrible Audioplay Adaption
Revisado: 01-29-21
This is just pure torture to listen to. I got just under 90 mins in before I couldn't bear it anymore. Horribly overacted and jumps all over the place, making it impossible to care at all for whichever character is in focus for the few mins that they get the spotlight. I love audio plays, and they've been done to spectacular effect (Locke and Key/Battlefield Earth/all 3 of the Alien audio plays/ Enders Game ). This one is a massive failure compared to similar formats. It's what happens when a production is so full of itself, that it can't see the massive failure in the adaption of its source material. If more time had been spent with each character to develop them before moving onto the next, this could have been a VERY different audiobook.
With that said, Gaiman is an amazing narrator, and the best part of it all. Also, as a lover of the audioplay format, I enjoyed the sound effects and music.
Such a dissapointment!

Unbearable
Revisado: 01-06-21
This book has accomplished the unimaginable. It has taken what had become one of my favorite series and made me absolutely loathe it. The two main characters were turned into pitiful crybabies, who despite having amazing abilities, can only feel bad for themselves for nearly the entire 57 hour book. Their mental illness has been cranked up to an 11, which made them completely unrelatable. I was shocked to find that I hoped for the death and replacement of these characters who I previously enjoyed. Add to that, the book itself is a bloated mess that does very little to progress the characters and the overall story. I am not exaggerating when I say that 30 hours of this book could have been removed, and it would have taken NOTHING away from the story. Beloved characters and comic relief was absent from the story. Only Adolin, Dalinar, and Navani remain untarnished. Witt was the only bright spot in this book, and dare I say that his moment with Kaladin was the single best part of the story. If Sanderson doesn't have an editor, he needs to hire one. If he does have one, fire them immediately, and replace them. This book is a victim of a staff that idolizes their boss and dare not omit a single unnecessary word that he writes.
Despite phenomenal narration, the idea of continuing this series after this 57 hour mental torture session repulses me. Avoid at all costs!

Not as woke as other reviews say, but...
Revisado: 12-04-20
I was worried based on some of the other reviews, but even though Cline dabbled in some light wokedness(?), it didn't guide the story and he didn't constantly revisit any of those modern day social issues. If there was anything that I had a real issue with, its this... I can respect Clein's opinion about pop culture icons that had certain opinions later in their lives or created their works a certain way, but don't criticize them about it in your book, and then include those people or their works as major parts of your story. If you're hoing to draw attention and give reason for snowflakes to potentially cancel someone, then you don't get to appropriate their success to boost your own. It's sadly hypocritical. Also one of the quests was way longer than it needed to be, and dragged the flow of the story for me, but overall this one is worth a repeat listen.
